iPhoto is my go to as well.  Unlike other software (looking at you itunes) Apple seems to improve iPhoto.

iPhoto is dead now - it has been replaced by Photos which is only available on El Capitan and later.

Google are terminating Picasa in favour of their "Photos".

Apparently the desktop app won't work either after they shut down the service.

Given the number of apps and services Google have been shutting down, I'd prefer not to use any Google product.

At a quick look, most of them seem to be Linux applications, probably not working on Mac and most probably not working on Windows, although I am yet to go through the list in more detail.
