What made your day today?
« on: Sun, 25 October 2015, 17:50:05 »
We have a what's bothering you thread so I thought let's practice our gratitude and talk about the good things that made our day!

I got a message from a user over on reddit complimenting me on my GON Nerd60 with Hyperfuse - he was actually wanting to see if it was for sale. I was incredibly flattered that he liked my board so much.

I'm now helping him out now in getting his own GON sorted  :). I know it's all ego but it feels nice to inspire someone else's wallethack passion for keyboards. It was Boopers's GMK Dolch cinemagraph that put me down the 60% road at the beginning of the year and it's really cool to inspire and help someone else down the same path.

After considerable aggravation for me and my son, we have beautiful (almost) new kitchen appliances working properly.

And I bought a lottery ticket to see if their was any positive energy left in my account.
"However, even though I was born in the Mesozoic, I do know what anyone who wants to reach out to young people should say: Billionaires took your money. They took your chance to buy a home. They took your chance at a good education. They stole your opportunities. Billionaires took the things you want in life. If you really want those things, you have to take them back.
That's the message. That's the whole message. Say that every day, not just to reach America's frustrated young white men, but people of every age, race, and gender.
Late-stage capitalism is a wealth-concentration engine, focused on vacuuming up every dollar and putting it in as few hands as possible. Republicans are helping that vacuum suck.
How does a tiny fraction of the population get away with this? They do it by dividing the other 99% of Americans against themselves."

I added an aux input to my wife's car. It's nothing really extravagant, but I've been trying to come up with an easy way of doing it and never found anything I liked online. I ended up figuring out a way on my own, and it costs me about $5 for the jack itself. My wife is super happy about it, which is all that really matters.

It's the little things in life.

Good luck! :)
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Just realized you're in Sydney, getting a good day there is easy peasy

Weekdays: Go to Harry's Cafe, get a pie and a beer while the sunset

Weekend: Go to fish market, eat lots of cheap oysters and grilled scallops

Funnel Web Spiders.
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

My little girl is such a humble, helpful, beautiful little delight. All of this is by grace, not by any superior parenting by me or wifey.

I found a bug in one if Lenovo's drivers.

I figured out how to make our application run about 7% faster.  But I got the go ahead to buy new faster hardware anyway, heh.

I get to write some Autohotkey scripts for work.

My Zealios arrived.

My best friend comes in town on Friday. Haven't seen him in person in almost 2 years.

My birthday is this weekend, and my kids are soooooo excited. It's really sweet.

Nice! Mine recently took care of the weed(not fun kind) problem we had. It was bad. I was waiting for the Predator to jump out of that ****.

What made my day was my brother stopped by and I got to see my 10mo niece who ended up making a terrible mess but his wife cleaned it up so no harm there.
Also, he brought me an external USB floppy drive with a couple extra 3.5", an extra 2TB WD HDD he had(NIB), and also a Dell AT101 with black alps that he got from his work. It's horribly yellowed and quite dirty. I haven't even tested it yet.

Making all the women at my wife's place of work jealous by taking her a homeade stromboli I made just to take in for her lunch.  I refuse to work on Veterans Day and needed something to do.  Used breakfast sausage, sauteed onions and green peppers, provolone, and some cheddar.  On top of the crust I did a light egg wash with and sprinkled some italian seasoning, and some smoked parmesean/reggiano/romano blend.  She left what was left for the rest of the girls to fight over.
