Looong time lurker
« on: Sun, 01 November 2015, 07:12:27 »
Just wanted to claim my seat here, finally! I bought a Filco Majestouch back in 2010 (I think from EK?) with blues on a whim, used it for a little while, then put it back in the box for a while. Signed up here in 2011 but then went to Korea for 3 years and kinda forgot about the site and mechs in general.

I only recently got back to the US and needed a new keyboard for work and settled on a WASD CODE w/ clears. Amazing board that got me back into the scene. Found /mk and started reading up there about other wild custom items like keycaps, cases, leds, cables, and wtf even little amazing, artisan keys? Then I remembered this place and went to make an account and was surprised...

In the past month I've bought a new V2 w/ browns for home and my keyset progression is getting more and more insane[ly expensive!!!!].

  • Royal Kludge ABS
  • Vortex PBT
  • Carbon Black
  • GMK Charred Orange

Then I stumbled into the GB/Artisan section here...
  • GMK Hyperfuse
  • WoB Design Series
  • GMK SKIDATA+

Very eager to get my first artisan! And can't wait to compare SKIDATA to Charred Orange, but that's a while away still...

Also hopeful for a New England (Boston) meet up someday!

Anyways, Hi!

How can one spend 3 years in Korea and forget about mech? That is mech mecca! You probably could have scored a few Korean customs! Anyway, welcome to Geekhack!

Welcome!  Who did you like Korea?  I am actually wishing I knew something there as it seems exporting form Korea is 2x the price of Japan.

Welcome to Geekhack!

I think you've just set a new record between joining and first post :))

I have a CODE with clears - great keyboard!  About the only keyboard I don't bottom out all the time.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I think we're all kicking ourselves over things we missed before finding out about mechanical keyboards etc.
