Tenkeyless

Cherry Blacks

Retail new for $215 USD. My $177 was outbid.

Wish we had a close-up pic of the keycap tops....
I trolled Geekhack and all I got was an eponymous SPOS.

am I missing something because that seems pretty expensive. you can get a Deck Legend 82 made by the same company for $119 USD.

Quote
2. Keycaps are made of Polyester (PBT) except the spacebar which is ABS.

3. There is no additional backplate for the switches on the 82 key model. There is an additional backplate for the 105 key Legend model.

they are made out of polyester and sub-dye printed.

TG3 has a backplate but no feet and uses a thermoplastic housing. Deck Legend has no backplate but rubber stick-ons and uses a fiber glass 4 housing which I think is nicer because it's durable and reflects the light from the led.

That keyboard is water resistant, backlit, and double shot with mechanical switches.

They are actually quite nice to type on, and VERY popular with the Police and Military.

We do not carry the Deck model, but from what the site says that model "Does Not" claim to be water resistant, and only comes in Blue or Green LEDs, not Red.
Red is important to those who rely on being able to see in the dark without having to wait for their eyes to refocus, which is why airplane cockpits and such are using red backlighting.

The red backlighting is actually pretty cool, and this model also comes with 8 levels of intensity so you can fine tune to your environment.

One other thing I can tell you, which may include the Deck Model as well (at least from the pictures) is that this keyboard is built like a tank, and would hold up to just about any environment.

They cost a chunk, but we have never had a complaint about performance.

Of course, YMMV..........

I bet the Deck is a little less "industrialized."  Unless you are looking for a little extra realism from your gaming experience, you wouldn't need it, and it brings the cost more in-line with other gaming products.

Deck Legend 82 used to come in Fire and Gold LED :(

I forgot the Deck Legend 82 does use a transparent thermoplastic casing it's on top of the fiber glass 4 housing and on the bottom there is an additional aluminum pan.

you can buy additional transparent thermoplastic casings on their website they have them in a range of colors.

I don't think it's going anywhere.

just because NASA has flame retardant underwear doesn't mean they will put it to the test lol

well, there WAS a deck 82 'fire' (red) up until recently on their site.  not sure why it is gone.

i thought this was like a known fact, that the deck is just a rebranded, slightly gaymerfied version of the police keyboard?

the deck also has the many levels of backlighting

i wish i could pay retail for stuff like this sometimes, would be nice to go into Best Buy, buy all these fancy keyboards, and return all but two...

Internet rumor.   I heard Unicomp is shipping their Mini in time for Christmas.

Having received quite a few inquiries for the Model M Space Saver lately I contacted Unicomp and was given a "no comment" when asked about the chances of seeing this produced in the future.  Not a "no", but basically a "don't hold your breath", not very encouraging.

Let me know if you get a clearer answer...........Later...

Korean keyboard modding legend ScarFace has modded one here to give interesting color gradients:

http://cafe.naver.com/sfkey/58

This is a slightly different version which also included a trackpad, but you can see the layer of rubber above the switches which probably is the whole "waterproof" part. Check it out.

Is there a way to translate that page?    At first I thought the membrane was a waterproof layer but it looks like he is reusing the rubber domes of the base keyboard and adding [strike]White[/strike] Clear Cherries.

AndrewZ, didn't your mama know you should be polite to women?  She posted in another thread she was skeptical but at least she was nice enough to check it out.

Oh, it appears that he cut off the domes, probably because they made typing harder. The 2nd picture down from the one where he spelled out "SCARFACE" show the unmodified state, and yeah.. that indeed looks quite waterproof.

The picture above that appears to be what he modified it to by cutting away the top to get a more bright light instead of a milky one through the domes. I also guess that he did it to improve the feeling of the keys because I can imagine the rubber adding some more resistance, no wonder they used browns originally.

I can later ask a friend to help me translating the actual page, but I think this is what he did.

i know the location of the key, it's for emphasis, Olde English that Capitalized Stuff like This is what Ruined Proper Caps for Me and Made Me Realize that stuff like unix has the right idea

especially when i am typing at the sole approval of some other forum goers
who apparently DO read my posts

but anyway, through this discussion, we all now know that that seems to be the only difference.  glad i didnt pay the big bucks for the TG3, not even sure if a rubber layer sounds desirable (joke in 3 2 1)

EDIT thats the other thing i forgot to add, didnt know mskeyboard was female either

We have at least 2 left: lmnop and Ms. Keyboard.  Cchan stopped by about a week ago, but she hasn't been around much in the past few months.  She was pretty young, so she might have been tied up in school.  You know, doing something productive.

Ok, sorry about passing on OLD INFORMATION, but we have a whole lot of new guests here, and I thought since every time someone mentions the Space Saver it stirs up all kinds of questions about ship date, I thought it would be good to make it known that you might as well believe in fairies!  You all ask the questions, I just try to find the answers.  No harm, No foul..

As for that other water resistant board, I am waiting for another order, but when I get one I can pull a key and let you know what I find, but it looks like all he did was replace some switches.  These boards are also bullet proof as well as bright, so I do not think he cut away any of more of the membrane.

I think there are more women here than you recognize, but I don't mind being one of the few.  Later............

Don't worry, Andrew.  I already forgot what you were talking about.  I was going on about something else.  I just like to see the diversity in the forum.  We have a lot of people from different countries, different walks of life, professions, etc.  It's nice to know this just isn't some dork sausage-fest, and that we have some female input to go along with all of our other experiences.

I think TG3 BLT boards are originally equipped with MX/blacks. My BLTB ( non backlit, non waterproof ) uses black cherries.
According to Korean-Japanese translation, the aurther swapped blacks to browns.
It's not clear through auto translation either if he just tested MX/white before he set it to browns or if he has 2nd BLT board modded to MX/white.

If you stare at this picture closely, after aprox. 30 seconds slowly a Droid appears.

Tina Fey is so hawt...

So, since we're sort of talking about FenTek and tenkeyless all: does anyone have an opinion or experience with these: http://www.fentek-ind.com/happyhacking.htm

I've been curious about small-footprint keyboards for a while, but I started with WoW again and my keyboard drawer isn't big enough for a 101-key Model M and the mouse; so the mouse is on the desktop and that's killing me. So, finding a small-footprint that makes me happy has now become imperative.

At this point, I'm using an IBM Spacesaver II (Thanks Ripster!), but I'm not happy-happy with it (BS spoils you). So, I'm considering alternatives, like a BS Spacesaver, a Deck and - now - this FenTek hh2.

$280 BIN.  White.

Brand new Happy Hacking Pro 2 keyboard I purchased from Japan just couple weeks ago. I opened the box, tested the board and decided my wrists with RSI are not a good fit (they seems like Kinesis better, all flat boards give me pains, that is a different story).

My loss is your gain. This is a legendary keyboard I won't spend too much time to describe it here. Its perfect size and smart layout, the best key switches ever made. You will definitely love it.

The item in the photo is the exact keyboard you will get, in new mint condition, with all original packaging, manual and USB cable. If you like higher resolution photo, please contact me.

sounds like an identical story and situation my seller had (except at least my guy marked it as USED, not new...)
ill have to look it up now
it went through, not a scam, but still funny

$280 BIN is what they go for new on ebay, but they are still less than that on EliteKeyboards

I just bought a few of the PS/2 HHKB2 Lites used on eBay for $12 apiece. I'm using one of them with my Acer Aspire One, as it's the perfect size to toss in a bag with the netbook. For a rubber dome it isn't too bad, and IMO it's much nicer than typing on the netbook keyboard. I'm still getting used to the layout but after using it for a couple of days it's going pretty smoothly.

I don't think I'd ever use one as my main keyboard (I use a Model M Space Saver on my main rig) but for use with the netbook it's just about perfect and a bargain at $12. I dunno if I'd pay $60 for a new one, though.
