why do people always butcher 'NIB'?

NIB
New In Box

not New Out Of Box
not I Tested It But Thats It
not Basically New And I Still Have The Box

NEW IN BOX

I think "I Tested It But Thats It" In Box is miles better than regular vanilla NIB.

well thats what i mean,

and i know that ebay is kind of limiting with the general choices, "New" or "Used", but im tired of seeing ***NIB*** tacked on the end of stuff that "i just tested".  i have found its especially bad with CPUs on ebay... people in search of the golden overclocker will buy five, 'test' them all, and sell 4 of them ***NIB*** for what they originally paid, telling people "i took it out of the box for testing".  they mean "overclocking potential assessment that almost ruined it" but people read "what a nice guy".

i understand picking "New" over "Used" for something like this, but describe in the title/auction that it is not ***NIB***

New, Sealed, Mint (thanks ripster)
New, Sealed
New, Open-Box / Tested
Used (and all the various descriptors that go with that)

I bought a mini "NIB" but the box was open. The seller was cleaning out someones basement or something. I took his word for it and he seemed genuine. I get it and of course, had to take it out of the box to eyeball it. I think I typed on it for 5 minutes. Yeah, it works. I put it back in the box and it sits in my closet.
When I do get around to selling it I intend to list it as NIB.
Because really, it is.

What I don't like about 'New, Open-Box/Tested' is I have no idea how long it was 'tested'. Was the tester eating Cheetos? Was the 'testers' cat sleeping on it?
Not everyone abides by the same standards. And it can be a bit of a crapshoot getting stuff off of e-bay. You pay your money and take your chances I guess.

Ideally, it would be a sealed box but I haven't seen to many of those around.

no, its not new in box.

for the drop-down, choose "new"
for the title, type "new"
in the description, say "NEW - Tested"

the lack of standards is the problem i am talking about.  my tested HHKB is for sale for $280.  but you cant play into the game, just be honest about it... actually say, in the ad, "i used it for 5mins to test it, clean environment, that's it" like you just told me.

His store used to be "IBMstuff4less". I'm not sure whether he has that store for non-keyboard stuff, or whether he just switched to concentrating on keyboards.

What I really like to know is how many more **NIB** does she still have for sale. It seems that as time passes, these M Minis are becoming less and less rare.

Edit:   If Trixie continues to saturate the populace with vast amounts of M Minis, then it would not be scarce so it would not be rare.

a New In Box keyboard that was taken out of the box just to make sure it worked but is also sold AS-IS and also the cord happens to be a little dirty*

* also if you read this lengthy colorful ad you will finally find the hidden $6 handling charge, which is in fact explicitly against ebay rules

huh, so everybody does it now.

i love well shipped stuff too.  but see, i really hate people who will lie to me, like these two auctions do.  at the top, there is price, and SHIPPING.  ebay says you cannot go and charge some extra "handling" charge like that...

he knew what it was when he listed it.  he knew what size box he would have to put it in.  he sat there and typed in a false shipping charge.  it's a lie.

if you think your packing is so great, and want to distinguish yourself from the rest, POST PICTURES OF YOUR EXCELLENT PACKING, don't trick people into buying your stuff... effectively, that is what he is doing: taking precedence over other items and deceiving the buyer.

people like this should be warned, then banned from ebay.  ebay stops the "xbox, only $1!  and $299 shipping" crap, which wasn't near as bad by comparison... because price+shipping is price+shipping, and cheapest comes first if that is how you are sorting.  who cares how the seller organizes it in his mind.  but these two guys just throw in an arbitrary third value... one that the other 50 items on the page do not have... "oh, because of the handling, im so special and careful, i need more money..."

yeah, that's so ****ing above and beyond that you need to con people to fund it.

reported both of them.  almost couldn't decide between "additional purchase offered or required" or "excessive shipping and handling"

i know everyone really likes these guys, so i hope they dont go out of business over $1/$6.

Technically it's MISB - Mint In Sealed Box is what collectors want.  Don't get me started on LegoLand - there are some serious collectors out there.

Yeah, the Japanese and Korean collectors take their keyboards seriously!

A small nick or scratch can make the difference between receiving a top dollar premium or standard "market" price.

I still come here everyday, I just ran out of things to say : )

I CH was ok, but I wasn't able to map the top two buttons. I forget exactly  but it seemed fixed depending on what dip switches were set. Overall it was ok. I ended up selling it to a gh member.
I still use the kensington expert. Its just a great trackball. I would like to try the new slimblade but would like to touch one first before laying out the cash. Right now, for me anyways, it would be hard to beat the expert.
I have an older kensington expert which is mechanical. Its pretty good too, just wish it had the scroll wheel.

For most of us, it's never just about the money.  It's about getting our hands on that new keyboard that may be very similar to the 15 we already own, but we still have to have it for our collection.

Most of us have been scammed at least once.  But only the less evolved (OK, only the idiots) would fall for the same scam more than once.

I can't relate to the "gnaws into your soul" stuff.  After all, we're only talking about keyboards.  Anyone who continually gets taken for a ride has much bigger issues than what would be apparent on a keyboard forum.

I hope that particular keyboard was not sold recently.

Brandon promised to give me first dibs on a NIB IBM PC AT 84-key.

Who knows, one day I might just make a Japanese collector an offer he can't refuse  :)

Just received a surprise from Parcel Force in regard to my purchase of an item from "The Usual Guy (Woman)". On top of the total cost of purchase ($195), includes Shipping, I now have to pay an additional £30 for VAT. :frusty:
Wish this "Usual Guy" had a Woman's common sense to declare the item to be approximately $40, so it's no more purchases from this "Usual Guy" from now on (was going to bid for two more NIB for my dearest ones). Value Added Tax on a second-hand item (something is gnawing into my Soul yet again).
