Hello! Trying out GH!
« on: Mon, 14 December 2015, 18:42:51 »
I go on Reddit a lot, but respond to newbies is a little bit tiring.  Hoping to make some friends here! Forum layouts confuse me a lot so this'll take a while to get used to.

The OG Black and Orange was a little jarring and I couldn't really follow the threads very well. I'm starting to have more time on my hands so I figure why not join.

Use the Tapatalk app. The interface is pretty great and also strips signatures, which I find to be rather noisy. Push notifications for watched threads is also a huge plus.

I also browse /r/MK frequently, but come here to escape the pok3rs and shoes.  :))

Welcome to GH!

If you don't like the color scheme you can always change it in settings to a brighter setting. I don't go on Reddit too often but I recognize your name from there. This place is a lot fun. :thumb:

Be sure to turn off post notifications for every single response in a thread, its maddening.

Just so you know, you can turn off signatures in "Looks and Layout", in your profile, as well as change the theme to a lighter colour!

I turned on notifications for Clack threads. I'm not sure if it's working. The only time I'll find out is when Clack posts again, but by then it'll be too late.

Haha I was on the same boat as you. I bought two Pok3rs for my first mechs and now I'm deep into customs, spent way more than I would have ever imagined on keyboards. Back in the day I use to refuse to buy a mechanical keyboard because it was around $100, now I'm paying 10x as much for a board haha.

I remember buying my first mech in early 2010--a Unicomp. Couldn't believe I spent that much.

$100 now is chump change (for a keyboard).

It's crazy how drastic your perspective of keyboard worth can change once you get into the hobby. I guess it apply to any hobby but when I tell people(not into the hobby) I spent a grand on a board, they think I'm completely insane.

I'm working on a b.face for my first board which has cost me ~$400 so far. I plan on joining the next Granite GB as well. I'm afraid for my wallet if it only goes up from here...  :-X

Would have joined the WhiteFox drop too had it not been for the $1500 in car repairs that hit me out of the blue the day before.

Yeah getting in this hobby will make you learn that you can't get everything that you want. Have to learn to skip out on some group buys and hope that you can find somebody selling the item later on. I'm definitely in recovery mode, went on a spending spree the past few months.

Welcome to Geekhack!

I prefer the classic Nostalgia theme - it's easier on my eyes in the darkness where I usually lurk.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
