Your Favorite Keyset and Switch Combinations
« on: Tue, 15 December 2015, 11:36:28 »
This is a thread to see what other people are loving in terms of switches and keycap combos. I'm currently LOVING lubed vintage 55g blacks with GMK Dolch on my QFR. Sooooo buttery smooth and that thock is unmistakable. The texture of the keycaps is also excellent. My spacebar is starting to shine, but I've come to embrace the shine.

Are they Cherry profile or OEM profile? I've just put some dark gray side-print Vortex PBT caps on my Novatouch (NT), but the set that I have is OEM profile. I've tried Cherry profile on the NT, but this results in bottoming-out noise.

thick pbt or pom on liner switch, thick abs on tactile switch, thin pbt on click switch.  All Cherry profile.
All those keyboards will be lost in time....

If you put O-rings on the cherry profile caps, you won't get the bottoming out noise, as it lifts the caps just enough not to hit the Topre housing.

Best match (IMO) of switches and keycaps on stock keyboards:

IBM Model F and Model M switches with their own dye-sublimated PBT keycaps

Realforce 87UB Topre 45 or 55g switches with their own dye-sublimated PBT keycaps

PFU HHKB Pro 2 black or white Topre 45g switches with its own blank or dye-sublimated PBT keycaps

My favorite keycaps on the CM Novatouch:

Ducky dye-sublimated PBT OEM Profile Cream (alphanumeric keys); Originative Carbon Black (modifiers and spacebar)

They are cherry profile, but the bottoming out is very minor.  It's definitely more noticable on the stabbed keys.  I haven't tried o-rings yet, but I'm currently loving the profile and key feel.  The bottoming out noise actually sounds very "thocky".

Same with most people here, 59g lubed vintage blacks with GMK.

Please feed my addiction.

I'm currently torn between SA on Topre, and Hi-Pro on Topre. I like them for differing reasons, and while they look similar, they don't feel the same.

I'm always between my B.Mini with MX-Blacks and my HHKB. But I think it'd have to be the HHKB.
