Moment Lens iPhone Case mini-review
« on: Thu, 17 December 2015, 11:42:01 »
Just received the Moment lens Case for my iPhone 6 Plus. Case is really well made and as a standalone case is a good option. The lens mount hardware is really solid and lenses mount cleanly. The walnut inlay is a nice change from the slick plastic case I had before. A bit bulky compared to my other cases, but definitely improves grip and stability when in landscape shooting orientation.

The main complaint I have is the BtLE functionality of the shutter button, and lack of true integration. The button was, for me, the most intriguing feature, because the pseudo-promise of being able to whip your iPhone out and click a button to immediately take a photo is way better than having to swipe up (which doesn't always work quickly) or unlock via fingerprint or code and then get to the camera app. I want my phone to always be in camera mode in lock screen, at the ready to take shots right when I de-pocket the thing.

The app that goes with the button (require because presumably the Apple APIs are not available to support it natively) seems a bit rushed, and all the kinks have yet to be worked out. I'm also not sure who's to blame here for the tendency of the connection to be lost, thwarting the purpose of the shutter button in the first place. At least for my intended usage for quick, spur-of-the-moment access where opening and getting to the camera app takes too long to get the shot you want.

Hopefully this will improve over time, and it could be even better on the 6S models; wonder if there is a difference with the new Apple hardware.
