New Build Atreus62 (60%)
« on: Mon, 21 December 2015, 22:02:54 »
Decided to start my first hand wired build over my upcoming vacation.

Build parts arrived today.

Sneak preview:

Building this larger Atreus for my wife. She wanted something smallish but took a look at the Atreus images online and decided she couldn't get used to a 40% board. So this is the compromise.

I'm excited to see how it'll turn out.

Using a Pro Micro as the controller.

Looks cool, the casing is gonna be completely wood? and what switches are you planning on using?
looking forward to the build logs ^^

The case is 5 layers of Cherry veneer MDF that are 3.5mm thick.

Top layer
Plate
2 Spacers
Bottom

For a total of 17.5mm thickness.

I'm going to be using Cherry MX Clears.

Cool! What is the overall width on this?

Integrating the diodes into the switches, thinking (hoping?) that it'll give me a cleaner matrix in the end.

Columns done. Integrating the diodes came out nice and clean.

It really does keep things cleaner, I've done it myself and was pleased with how it simplified the look of the final matrix.

Nice job so far.

Very clean looking wiring you have there! :thumb:

In-switch diodes do clean things up a bit, however I have seen some clean builds as well where people have opted to keep the diodes outside of the switch. Either way nice job!

Decided to get a little messy for the sake of maintenance and added right angle headers to the microcontroller and then used female jumper wire to connect the matrix.

All closed up and working perfectly... just need to add some keycaps:

Nice work. Did you use TMK with the Pro Micro?

These are the keycaps my wife chose... waiting on some blanks to show up so I can get rid of some of the odd keys... (that "6" key for "Tab" really irks me)

Apologies for the necro.

Can you detail how you integrated the diodes into the switches? I've seen rumors of it around but only seen it on switches specifically designed for it. My google-fu is weak, so I can't seem to find more info on how to do it with run of the mill cherry switches. Tried examining your pictures closely but can't quite see what to look for.
I typed this post on my Slanck. I also developed a stronger, cleaner, easier handwiring method.

All MX style switches support in switch diodes. Open the switches put the diodes inside. The legs should stick out the outer most holes in the switch housing.

Ah, that's what I thought from the pictures but wasn't quite sure. Thanks!
