DUCKY104 - New Filco Clone?

Seems this chinese guy who sells the KBC keycaps now also offers a Costar (Filco FKB104?) board!

Clone would imply that someone made an effort to copy something. That thing probably comes off the same production line as the Filcos. Whether it has a good controller or not in another question.

"Ducky"?  That's a bit of a fruity name.  Might as well be made out of pink plastic.

Seems like Costar indeed. There is also a 108 key version which might be strongman. Bottom of both boards does not look Costar typical, maybe both are produced by Strongman.

lasered?

Cherry style stabilizers.. thats new. Very interesting.

no FCC id.

PCB Color and shape of the controller suggests Costar

I prefer programmable macro keys to those multimedia keys. Some day, those multimedia keys will have gone the same way of the Turbo button--becoming obsolete and dated.

They could have attempted something iRocks like Duck-e.

I like ducky. duck-e would just be obligatory and boring, like something you would expect a chinese ripoff concern to name their product.

If I were to order my own line of CST-104 boards, they would have one of those names that says "high quality american made product", where it's either a word which means "something regular" or just the last name of a person.

Something along the lines of SYNDICATED, WHITMAN, STANDARD, ANDERSON, or WESTERN. Most of those are probably already taken, but you get the gist of it.

I would buy a WHITMAN keyboard. You know you can trust Whitman.

Hmmm...maybe that nice thick lettering paint has lead in it that'll slowly poison your fingers so they forget how to type.

Shipping from Asia would be ridiculous, though.

I would produce my keyboards in Honduras, maybe Ecuador.

I could pay my workers in scrib, and set up a puppet government that allows me to operate tax free.

No, and that is the only thing that stopped me from ordering ten dozen sets...

As they cost just 75 (or 130 RMB) per set one could make some win selling em in Euroland, heh?

Since kbc-china.com is an invalid hostname, I tried Google.

Couldn't find anything about Ducky keyboards, but I found this interesting article:

http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/web/library/wa-cranky50.html

If only IBM had known about Baby Duck Syndrome, the PC could have gone straight to the 101-key Extended keyboard, or something like it, but with only 83 keys, to keep costs reasonable.

Has anyone figured out if they ship to the US, or what they're charging?

Thanks for the information.  Can you tell me how you found this out?  The key lettering we figured out with some simple tests (we agree with all your findings) but plastics is hard.

u r wlcome:welcome:
just by touching watching feeling. and magnifying glass
abs pbt pom are quite different plastic.
abs is easy to get sticky, it's not that wearable.
pbt pom are better. there is a kind of ZR keycaps,
zr are used for medical things, hard self-lubricate and healthy, one guy in China has made some keycaps by zr, it would be much more expensive than pbt or pom.

pbt 's hard but brickle,  pom's slippery
one guy here in China's made some keycaps of ZR
seems very hard, self-lubricate and healthy(manmade bones minght be made of ZR)
i've got 4 zr keycaps, it's realy hard.

that's like $100 + something like $50 shipping maybe? more? I don't know, I've never imported anything from China before.

not bad for one of those 108 key brown cherry boards. those look pretty slick. Pricey for a cst104 but if they're half as nice as they look... I'd pick one up in a second.

You fellas should find a US distributor or something.

There is nothing wrong with waiting for a review before buying. I tried to look for reviews whenever I can. Of course, there are times when reviews are non-existent or not conclusive and we have to decide what to do.

There is nothing wrong with waiting for a review before buying. I tried to look for reviews whenever I can. Of course, there are times when reviews are non-existent or not conclusive and we have to decide what to do.

u r right.

I recognized the abbreviations ABS, PBT, and POM as being for types of plastic - POM I had only learned about recently from here. ZR was not familiar, since I presumed it wasn't being used to refer to the metal Zirconium.

It took some doing to Google it up, but apparently it refers to Zaitform Resins.
