I read an article a month ago about how MS had worked very hard to increase travel in their Surface Pro and Surface Book keyboards. The switches are no longer standard. I'll post a link if I can find it.
I haven't seen a dedicated article, but the release day reviews mention that they're longer travel, better spacing, and snappier (less mushy) than the Surface Pro 3 type cover (or any cheap chiclet board for that matter). I haven't used one personally as I use a HHKB with my SP4, but I've seen lots of praise for the typing experience from both the SB and SP4 Type Cover. Comparatively speaking of course

But it is still a scissor switch, just a higher quality one than normally seen.
