F keys on left side/ KMAC mini layout?
« on: Mon, 04 January 2016, 08:50:10 »
I saw this and I was intrigued. I would think it would be perfect for gamers yet the KMAC mini is the only keyboard I can find that has the F keys on the left side instead of across the top, when speaking of modern compact keyboards that is.

So any ideas why this wouldn't be a preferred layout and/or why there arent more keyboards like this?

Id love to try it but there is no way Im going to pony up the 450 large to find a KMAC mini.

i'm with you! i do not understand why this is not the standard with today's keyboards.
the only boards i have with F-keys on the left are 30+ years old..
it's way nicer for me to have all the F-keys clustered together like that. i move my hand a tiny bit to the left, and all keys are within reach. i don't even have to look! : )

what i'd also like to see is a TKL where the whole arrow- and navigation section is located on the left side of the board.
with so many gamers today, and the majority being right-handed, it makes more sense to me to put that whole section on the left side.

Looks good....but I cant tell if thats a complete keyboard or just some parts. Definitely going the right way...and the price is getting better.

It's a whole keyboard, but you're going to have to put it together yourself. Been thinking of getting one, but I just finished an ALPs build thanks to BlueNalgene's GB. My wallet needs time to recover.

Once I get my JD45 out the door, I'll be working on a design with 10 F-keys on the left, as you describe.
KMAC :: LZ-GH :: WASD CODE :: WASD v2 :: GH60 :: Alps64 :: JD45 :: IBM Model M :: IBM 4704 "Pingmaster"

I dont actually mind that. but it looks like the switches arent included or it doesn't list what kind it comes with.

Ill keep an eye out for that.

IBM model F AT has the f keys on the side.  Will probably be a little bit of a project, but you could get a soarer converter and convert to ansi etc.

I dont like the older keyboards because they're all usually huge and one that arent pull huge money...and are still pretty huge. Im looking for compact.

I'm not a lefty, but I use left hand keyboard. I need arrow keys on the left too. But I would love to try KMAC mini :D
Currently, these are my 2 setup.

yeah the left had crossed my mind when I first got into keyboards but I quickly realized they are probably just about as rare as one with the f keys on the left side.

The num pad thing also crossed my mind but I was playing mostly FPS games and it wasn't really necessary. Ive added in a MMO and a MOBA or 2 so the requirement for some more easy to reach buttons are coming back. So it renewed the search.
