CES 2016

So it is CES time again.  Anybody actually there? Anybody intrigued by cool gadgets? Let's discuss.  I love new toys.

I used to be really interested in CES news. And i do like drones, and i'm relatively interested in VR. But i have next to zero interest in CES the past year or so.  It takes so long for things that i have acctually been interested with coming from CES to get to market, if it ever does. I still watch some tech youtuber's content from CES if it looks interesting. But a majority of consumer electronic's like all of the connected smart devices, large 4 K and 8K TV's etc.. dont usually grab my interest.

Of course if i hear about something that's acctually really cool id like to discuss it :p

That reminds me, the new think pad / yoga pads with OLED screens have intrigued me. The past few phones i have had, the Motorola moto X 1st and second gen have AMOLED screens and im fairly excited to see that going into laptops and full size TV's. The blacks and colors look great on them, though they tend to lean to the over saturated side, i kind of like that.

The new Razer Ultrabook looks hot but it's actually not when I saw at the specs.   ^-^
But either way, I think my next laptop/notebook/ultrabook would probably be a Macbook Pro.
I've always wanted one, and after my studies hopefully I would not need to use Windows for works anymore.
I'd probably try out Mac OS for once.  :)

Is this one going to roll up as well?

You can use Windows on a Mac, you know, no need to have a separate machine.  They certainly are nice, but they are not cheap to buy new, that is for sure.

I'm also resisting the urge to click on that vibrator link.  Sex toys are so much fun to look at.

i have a macbook pro - i love it a lot. but seeing the new ipad and surface pros that don't have keyboards built-in where an external keyboard wouldn't raise eyebrows makes me envious....
Let's get this straight. There is nothing cool about keyboards we're all lame as fk.

Seems like OLED finds its way to computer monitor this year, which is good.

Anyone noticed MSI just bring a gaming Mac Pro to CES?

Two themes stand out thus far, lots of drone stuff and lots of VR stuff. And I'm not really into drones and not remotely interested in VR.
I was very interested in the software-side of VR some fifteen years ago. I worked in the field at a research institute and I attended a few research conferences about VR.
But I have also always been interested in Science Fiction, and the more I read, the more I found that too much immersion into virtual worlds is not necessarily a good thing. I decided then to keep my findings to myself and get out of the field.

A drone could be a useful tool if you are a photographer. I'm not.

.. And of course all the boards inside it are entirely proprietary, just like a Mac Pro... What a shame.
The design is different, though: instead of a unified thermal core each component has its own vertical cooling flange.

I have been wanting to build a computer like that for years. But I want the components to be standardized, and I want to build them myself. I'd also prefer one single more powerful GPU to two GPU's from 2014 that could only be used together in SLI.

Great, I can disappear in a virtual world while the government is spying on me.

I wonder how big of a market that virtual reality sex can become.  There are a lot of lonely people out there...

I honesty wonder if that's the direction we're headed. People sacrifice real relationships for virtual ones on their phones. Many would rather watch porn than be with someone IRL. I worry the VR sex/sexbot future is sadly inevitable. :-(

There are a lot of lonely people out there for which social interaction is difficult, for one reason or another.  Why chase your fantasies when you can create them without leaving your own home?

I know what you mean, though.  The prevalence of screens and the information we can access on them certainly has affected human relationships.  While I was too young to understand the early years of the Internet, I've read that many people were very hopeful of the Internet's potential and focused on all the positives things it would bring.  Now we can see how mass adoption of the Internet has brought out the best and worst of humanity.
