Tried using a polishing compound and a buffing wheel on this African Blackwood. No finish of any kind.

Ya exactly, this just had a few extra steps that really improved the appearance. I'll have to see what oil does to it.

Not at all, I love talking about endmills!

My bread and butter for small stuff is a .0435 PCB endmill and a 1/32" ball endmill. I also have a 1/64" ball endmill but I haven't had a chance to use it yet!

Ya I'm pretty gentle with the ball endmills because they're expensive but they still F#@$^*# break! So if you buy some smaller ones, be careful :thumb:

Oh I have broken my fair share of bits. I bet those cap cut jobs are loooooong. Your IPM must be pretty slow to get a finish like that. I'm doing a Linux cnc upgrade on my grbl arduino cnc over the next few weeks. I need more stability in motion controller.

They do take quite a while to cut but most of the work on the caps is done by hand.  Out of the machine they don't look to hot and some wood looks plain terrible. The wood's finish comes from 7 sanding steps followed by a good amount of polishing. I'll probably post about the process sometime soon.

That one on the far left just brought a flurry of nostalgia. It reminds me of my childhood home and the '90s; our house at the time was decorated heavily with that black marble look, primarily in the living room. I completely forgot about it, and that cap just brought a surge of memories.

I think its the same as the prototype using inlace acrylester but im not sure. Maybe if its possible to have teal and pink would be awesome too. some wishful thinking i guess  :))
