keyset recommendations for upcoming build
« on: Thu, 14 January 2016, 07:30:25 »
So I am fairly new to this. I am getting ready to build my first board with this DIY kit https://www.massdrop.com/buy/sentraq-60-diy-keyboard-kit/talk
I also ordered this case in walnut for it: https://www.massdrop.com/buy/pok3r-wood-case

The only piece missing is I need some keycaps for this. It comes with black on grey caps, but I want something that looks more "natural" to match the wood look of the case. Also I think I read that the top case will not fit correctly with SA profile so anything SA will not work. Does anyone have any suggestions on keysets that might look good with this, and where I could buy them?

One set I found on the internet that I thought might work well was a DSA retro set. But I couldn't find it for sale anywhere.

I wouldn't know which keyset to recommend to you, but if you are interested in a set that's no longer in production you could try the Classifieds here on Geekhack or looking at /r/mechmarket on reddit.

Thanks I'll check out the classifieds and see if I can't find that retro set.

I did look at the enjoypbt but I wasn't really feeling any of the colors for this build.

Haha yeah I see what you mean. I've already spent ~270 on the kit and case... and still looking for keycpas this will easily be over 300.

You might be interested in this. Would work well with a wood case (That's my plan)

GeekKeys also has a pretty good selection of thick PBT sets, you may want to check them out: http://www.geekkeys.com/104-keysets/

Aren't those SA profile though? I think I read somewhere that SA profile will not fit in the this case.

It will fit, but the SA profile caps will look a little strange if the keyboard doesn't have a bezel (the caps will stand out a lot). You don't have to worry about caps fitting with the case, but with the switches you're using.

This case has a lid that sits over the caps though for when it's not in use. I believe the SA profiles are too tall for the lid to fit over them.

I have one of these cases didn't know about the SA issue. :(

My case is in the box waiting on a GH60 if it ever comes.

I don't know this to be true for sure. I don't have the case yet and I also do not have any SA caps to test with. But I believe someone stated this in the Massdrop comments section for the buy.
