Ducky shine 4 or Corsair k65 RGB?
« on: Sat, 16 January 2016, 11:36:36 »
I'm having trouble deciding between the two, because the Corsair has gaming key switches (MX reds) and a full color spectrum RGB, but the Ducky Shine is regarded as one of the best keyboards and it has MX browns which are better for typing as well. What would you pick? It is for gaming mostly and some amount of typing. I could get the Corsair K65 for $80 or the Shine 4 for $105. I really don't want to spend that much money, but if it is worth it, I'll go for it.

I'll go for the Ducky.
It has standard bottom rows while the Corsair doesn't.
So after market keycaps are hard to find if you want to replacement or swap them out in the future.
I think the MX Brown is pretty good for playing games as well. Really don't affect in any way except for double tapping then the MX Reds will be better.

Worth the extra money then? Thanks for the help. I don't know much about Ducky.

Well my first board was a Shine 2 TKL with brown switches and to be fair, I had no issues with them. None of the leds burned out neither I had any issues with the board.
Overall, I think ducky is a good purchase for a first board.  :)
So imo, it is worth the extra money.

Yeah, definitely better than my current CM Storm Devastator. I thought Corsair was good quality, but Ducky is surely more. How does it feel to type on with browns? Gaming?

I played mostly DotA 2 and TF2 when I was on my Ducky. It wasn't intensive (did not require smashing or multiple tapping on switches) so it was really nice actually.  :)
But I moved to MX Clears but I don't think Ducky does a board with MX Clears. It has a more pronounce bump but for starters I'd say MX Browns are good!

If you gonna change the keycaps, take the  Ducky board, corsair k65 don't have a standard bottom row (Ctrl, Win, Alt, FN/Menu and Spacebar row).

Ah okay, I did not keep up with the Shine series after the 2nd one. They didn't offer MX Clears before that but its great that they do now!
But I guess OP would wants an ISO board since he's from the US from his Heatwave acc.  :)

It was most to show you that Ducky have some boards with Clears.

I have some ISO/Nordic Shine 2/3 boards but it is a hell to find good lookin keycaps sets in ISO/Nordic layout.

So I bought my first ANSI Ducky Shine 3 board 2014, now I have 6 ANSI boards and no problem to find keycaps sets.

I have a Ducky Shine 4 SCE with Cherry MX Browns/Clears on the same board, bought from Massdrop last year.

Edit: It should be SCE not SEC.

I got you buddy :)
Yeah, I'm not too keen on ISO boards as well.
Since I'm studying in the UK, the computer's in my uni mostly have ISO boards which I'm not fond off (No offense to ISO users)  :-X
Keycaps is another factor too. ANSI ones are so much easier to source.  :)

Ducky, if you can afford it.
