Nope. That's a lot of money for one cap.

Happy everyday - where I sit here for 8 hours.

I will grab one when he comes out with the Probe cap ;P

It looks great, I just don't care much for Terran.

The first KBKs were $8 shipped. That's why I kinda lol when I see capmakers selling for $20+ on their first few sales. I guess girlDC has been around for a while but I don't see why he charges more for his caps than everyone else.

I am with you it is quite expensive. I signed up, but I am thinking I may drop out. But it may not drop too.

I like the design but it is a lot for retail.

I will have to look up the probe cap.

I think it's because of the intricate design. And maybe he's trying to get a certain final price from the cap? Massdrop might be taking a cut and girlDC could want to get a certain return. Although if they don't meet MOQ he won't get a thing.

Just for clarity - I'm not sure that cap exists yet or if he even has plans to make one. I just thought it might be the logical progression following the SCV cap.

I'm speculating, but I believe that GirlDC's plastic caps are injection molded (so he would have a large capital cost to recoup + quality should be more professional).

And he makes great stuff.  I've owned one of his metal caps, and they are really well done.

That said, I will be passing on these myself as well.

He actually sands down a 3d print. From GirlDC directly in the Massdrop thread:

"The device I use to 3D print the original form is one of the most accurate printers which is on par with the quality I of work I pursue myself. (The 3D print setup roughly costs $200,000)

However, even this printer cannot print an object with a smooth surface.

What I do is, I cut and sand the printed cap myself to make the shape and quality I am satisfied with.

The manufacturing process of artisan keycaps are generally similar for every keycap.

Silicon is used to make the mold for each keycap design."

Oh, interesting.  Does that mean each finished cap has been 3D printed, or the master has been 3D printed from a CAD file and the caps are then cast?  (he mentions silicon molds, which would not be needed if everything is 3D printed)

The post is much longer - yes I believe it is the master that has been 3D printed:

I understand what you are saying. On the other side of that, KBK sold them for 8$. But now they go for 100s and he saw none of that money. Just to play devils advocate.
