QWERTY isn't much better, but I guess standardization helps.
Every issue addressed to AZERTY can be also applied to QZERTY which was, in fact, dropped by us (italians).

I've heard about it already.
I've say multiple times that Azerty is far from being a perfect layout, but I have experience on it and don't want to re-learn typing especially when my job require to use other people azerty keyboards daily.
While I haven't tried it, I think Bépo: http://bepo.fr/wiki/Accueil would be much better than azerty, sadly this layout doesn't exist with quality keycaps.

As someone who grew up with Belgian Azerty, I don't mind. I switched to QWERTY about 6 months ago. Not regretting it.

AZERTY is an even stupider layout than QWERTY, if that’s possible, and represents the hegemony of 19th century American typewriters plus throwing in a slight twist, just to be French.

They should scrap it and start over from first principles.
