The computing/science department in my college dumps out an AT102W or two once every few months. Thing is that they are terrible condition, and the amount I could sell them for does't justify the effort involved cleaning them.

If they were dumping Model Ms on the other hand...

There's also plenty of people who want to git rid of thick old ugly keyboards, even if they aren't virtually destroyed.

Not too long ago I got a NIB AT101W for $20 on ebay.  I heard about it here. Sounded like a lot of people were getting the same deal.  After using an old hammered AT101W for months, I can tell you there is no comparison between it and a new one. Wow!

There was a time where you could get NIB ones for $5. Although I heard some people complaining that they hadn't been stored properly or something, the one I got was fine.

I have found numerous AT102Ws in skips that felt almost as sharp as the NIB AT101W. Of course, they were in pretty disgusting condition.

O_o

Since 'kåy' (pronounced like Eng. 'coy') isn't a word I suppose that it's mostly stupidity, akin to asking what the hell a 'smorgesh' is? Or are you being coy with me?

Kode's suggestion is okay. In my country a keyboard is called a 'tastatur' but then you'd lose the board reference completely so 'tangentbord' is nice. Even so, we're definitely off on a tangent so I'll shut up now.  :)

So am I the only one that noticed this?

Title:

LOT OF 9 DELL VINTAGE MODEL AT101W CLICKY PS/2 KEYBOARD

Description:

On Auction: LOT OF 4 DELL VINTAGE MODEL AT101W KEYBOARDS

Then later on in the description:

THESE 9  KEYBOARDS HAVE BEEN CLEANED AND CHECKED FOR STICKING KEYS

So which is it?  9 or 4? lol....

Oh and btw, just in case anyone was considering these, or anything else from this seller, when he says he has cleaned them what he is really trying to say is that he has not cleaned them.

My First Model M from him....Given this description:

THIS KEYBOARD IS EXTREMELY CLEAN AND IT'S EVIDENT IT HAS HAD LITTLE USE OVER IT'S 16 YEARS' EXISTENCE

Nice and crunchy.

I know this is normal for ebay stuff, I'm just letting you know since I have experience with him. And the keycaps are just as bad.

I actually bought an at101w from this "rogerky" seller. It was quite dirty and old, and seemed like he tried to replace some keys, as a few keys were noticebly "whiter" than others. Overall, I'd say avoid it.

If you really want a at101w, go with this instead:

http://cgi.ebay.com/DELL-AT101W-CLICKY-KEYBOARD_W0QQitemZ310184806762QQcmdZViewItemQQptZPCA_Mice_Trackballs?hash=item483874896a#ht_4916wt_1155

I got one, it's a bit dusty, but I can vouch that it is, in fact, unused(keycaps show no sign of usage, same with the metal mounting plate)

It does seem like uneven yellowing of the keys can occur with these Dells. I'd guess they had a big keys bin with multiple batches happily mixed, and the plastic quality varied. They all looked the same new, but now... Oh, and those keys appear to go shiny quite easily as well.
Hardware in signatures clutters Google search results. There should be a field in the profile for that (again).

This message was probably typed on a vintage G80-3000 with blues. Double-shots, baby. :D

interesting. I modded a filco tenkeyless that came with XM switches; replacing them with real black alps out of a NIB AT101. I have an additional NIB AT101 in the closet for future.
Maybe I need to break it out and type on it for awhile and see if it 'feels' any different then my filco tenkeyless.
I rotate through my collection and am currently on the filco with black alps. I think its a great feeling keyboard. Not as light as the cherry browns, but lighter then the the fukka and BS switches.
I don't know why the black alps get such a bad rap. Maybe its the AT101 form factor?
They feel really good in the filco.
I have only used new ones though, I don't think I would want to base my opinion on some worn out, dirty example.

Anybody know if the Complicated White ALPS are just Complicated Black ALPS with a different click leaf? That is my assumption from all the pics since the housing, spring, and sliders all look the same.

Comparing my Northgate and my Dells, that's pretty much the case.  Even the feel (outside of case, keycaps, etc.) is almost identical as you might expect.

yeah, the only diff is the click leaf, this is comparing my Dell at101w and Focus 2001.

I'm really starting to love this 2001... the complicated white clicky alps feels pretty good. And the dust cover is just awesome.

Dell AT101Ws with the Black Alps are the most common, and you can get one NIB off eBay for as little as $5. Even then, I wouldn't bother with them, they're pretty mediocre. White Alps are more interesting, but not as common. Focus and Northgate are probably the brands to look out for.

A dimwitted Telecoms lecturer I had last year claimed, whilst talking about propagation delays, that something travelling from Ireland to the US at the speed of light would take 100 seconds. A short while later, probably after seeing the look of horror on my face, he looked at me and went (completely seriously) "Was I a bit out there with 100 seconds?"
