Ergo-Clear Spring Selection for Stock Clear Fan
« on: Thu, 11 February 2016, 17:20:25 »
Hey folks,

As I'm sure many of you have seen, I am working on my first ergo clear mod. My first mechanical keyboard, soldering station and so on. I truly enjoy stock clears and thought I would enjoy a slightly heavier spring so i picked up some mechanicalkeyboard.com 24k SPRiT springs in 68g. I read that 67g is amazing but they weren't available. I am thoroughly lubing stems, sliders, and springs as well.

I have done about half of the keyboard and find the 68g to be far too heavy up front. I enjoy how light the stock clear springs are up front... certainly don't feel like only 65g when compared to the 68g springs. Then again, I am not sure how these SPRiT springs are at actuation vs bottoming out force.

So, while my keyboard is in the workshop, I picked up a stock MX Blue Poker 3. These springs... are far too light for me. I am trying very, very hard not to bottom out but I am. It's leaving my fingers feeling that awful inside pitch / aluminum baseball bat feeling.

With all this in mind, are there any springs like that of the stock MX clear switch that have an actuation pt somewhere between 60-63g force and bottom out at a much higher force... providing that nice cushioned landing feeling?

I would greatly appreciate any feedback on the topic! I am after the perfect actuation spring and I plan to mod my Pok3r down the line as well. I like the clickiness... and the feedback from this but it is simply too light I think at the bottoming out portion of each keypress.

There's nothing wrong with bottoming out. Is it causing problems? Maybe O-rings if it bothers you.

One of the things I disliked about Clears is that I could bottom them out crisply and reliably.

Sorry. I wrote this in a hurry.

I'm sure you knew what I meant though.

I am looking for a spring that mimmicks the properties of stock clear... on a lighter scale.

I've recently seen that stock clears actuate at 60g and bottom out at roughly 80g. So, is there a spring that actuates at maybe 55g / bottoms out at 75-80g or so?

sprit's 78g springs. I wouldn't call it "ergo clears" then, though—just lighter stock clears.

I came to this conclusion as well. Thank you for backing up my thoughts :)

I ordered them last night.

Do you think this would be a good choice for my MX Blues as well?

This question is for heavily opinionated answers. If you like that particular weight than go with it. Everybody likes different things so we can't really tell you what weight to go with.
