I would like to order some pancakes, poutine, and bacon product please

Poutine is always so over hyped its just potato on potatoes with gravy. Now steak fries (carne asada fries what ever its called) that is something to be hyped about.

I have to say all the Canadians I've met so far (mostly on loan or doing their PhD abroad) were very nice people, very easy to get along with, too :) .

Ontario & Quebec are pretty rad, ****in eh right bud. I would like to spend some time in Western Canada or way up north but I don't have any friends there.

I love the contrast of crossing the border. In all of my experiences, American border patrol = complete and utter power tripping douchers. Canadian border patrol = helpful sweethearts who you'd love to share a beer with.

I don't think I've had a pleasant time any of the times I've crossed.

-Given a dirty look for saying I was going to Toronto to see "the city" (we literally had no plans aside from the campground we stayed at - entirely improved trip)
-Hassled for trying to cross the bridge at Niagara at night on foot to see the falls from Canada (absurdly common thing to do)
-Car ripped apart coming back to US through Sault Ste Marie because apparently going to ON to meet someone you met on a keyboard forum is suspicious  :))  (lol I'll give em that one)

Also, are the guards the nationality of the country you're entering? Right?

It was all the same experience for me. I flew, so maybe that was the main difference, but all the guards had the same monotone voice, blank expressions, and general indifference to my answers of their questions. Catching a bus from Toronto to Niagara was kind of a hassle in itself. Cool waterfall tho

Oooh.  Yeah I've never flown to CA, and actually kind of forgot that most people wouldn't just drive.  :-[  I feel like airports would almost be easier since all your luggage was scanned and such.

It was during the early 2000s, everyone was on edge. It wasn't a bad experience, but the guards certainly weren't up for a chat.

My old Honda wouldn't have survived the trip  :'(

Ohhhhhh boy that doesn't sound fun. I understand it is their job to identify concerns/be suspicious but it'd be nice if they had a manner or two. I'm generalizing of course.

My highlights includes:
- Our car had 4 asian women & 2 white men. It was suggested that the men were human trafficking. The women were asked all sorts of questions, they didn't even look at me. My girlfriend was driving the car! Not that that's proof against, but really?
- Someone in our vehicle forgot to sign their passport. "Sorry, can I sign it now?" Apparently that really set the guard off, so our vehicle was searched.
- "What kind of firearms are you traveling with today?" "Uhhh none."

I can only assume the guards are the nationality of the country you're entering.

Canadian drivers are the worst I've ever seen, and I live in South Florida.

Seriously, South Florida drivers see the yellow light and floor it, but at least they stop on red. Canadians see a red light and floor it to try and get through the intersection while it's clear.

It's because the lights all stay red for like 5 seconds before changing.

It was really scary in downtown Montreal where the lights changed instantly following the yellow -- not to mention the lights themselves were mounted low down in some shrubs. I don't know if they've updated since I've last been.

In London and Toronto (I don't travel much) everything stays red for a bit. IMO it's a lot safer.

Canadian drivers are the worst I've ever seen, and I live in South Florida.

Seriously, South Florida drivers see the yellow light and floor it, but at least they stop on red. Canadians see a red light and floor it to try and get through the intersection while it's clear.
Woah woah woah, its a provincial thing, some provinces are worse than others *cough* Alberta *cough*
During my time in sfl I learned to count to five before going when a light turned green. Never saw that in Toronto/Ontario though

It is safer for sure. But people get used to running reds and timing the lights so they're going through them full speed the instant they turn green.

When they go to Montreal, it doesn't work so well.
