New Mechanical keyboard tkl
« on: Thu, 18 February 2016, 18:57:21 »
So I'm trying to find a perfect mechanical keyboard that will suit me. I'm a casual gamer and I do like most cherry mx red switches.

My first mechanical keyboard was Noppoo choc mini. Then after 3 happy years I want to try another one. Vortex Poker 3 from Amazon.co.uk with cherry mx blue switches. After I got keyboard I was very disappointed.  I have found 3 switches that sounds different when you press them from the other's.
Also PBT plastic on keycaps had very cheep finish or it was with flaws. You could see mx cherry holders (cross) on top of the key's (space, backspace and shift keys) idk if that's normal, but it looks very bad... I got a refund from Amazon w/o problem. Now i wanna buy another keyboard   :D

At the moment I'm using Corsair K65. It is not bad keyboard but i just don't like it. Key's looks so damn cheap (printed letters) and feel's cheep and sounds empty xD.

HHKB is very good (looks like you can eat one :D) but i think im not ready to be without arrows. I have tried Poker 3 (very short) and i did not like pressing FN for arrows. Maybe i would get use to it, but for now i will stick to TKL.

I was looking at Filco Majestouch 2 ninja tkl. Idk why, but I like the look of that keyboard (what I have seen on Youtube and from pictures). It look's simple and elite. Also i like more costar stabilizers over cherry's (same as i got on Noppoo). Thing is, this keyboard is old and still on the market. Why there is no Majestouch 3? Do they plan to make new ones soon or not?

Is there anyone here that have replaced Filco for some other keyboard and was more satisfied overall?

Price is not problem. But i don't wanna give 50 £ more just for the name.

I hope you can help me guys with my decision  :thumb:

P.S.
Sorry for my bad English.

Have you looked at the CM Quickfire Rapid?  It's super cheap and as far as I know it's made oem with most of the filco parts (someone can correct me on this).

Since you like MX Reds and want designated arrow keys, you would do well to consider a Realforce 87U variable weighted. The actuation force is approx. the same as Cherry MX Red, but it feels a bit more tactile and smooth at the same time, not to mention the landing is a bit softer, as well. The build quality is excellent and it has a really pleasing sound when typing. It's available in black or white.

After doing a lot of research on this exact thing I found the Leopold fc750r and Kul ES-87 to be the keyboards that offered the most quality in a stock tkl.  I ended going with the KUL with cherry mx reds and then bought a set of thick pbt dye sub keycaps for it.  The stock board itself is really solid feeling with a rigid case and super rigid metal plate.  The keycaps really lowered the tone of keystrokes making a pretty quiet board extremely quiet.  Total price was under $170 US which was still lower than the only fc750r available to me in the states off of ebay.

Good choice. I was going to ask if you cared for the placement of Control since the FC750 doesn't have the option to switch Ctrl with Caps (no dip switches). You could've saved some money with the FC750r since stock comes with PBT caps but I highly value the Ctrl being on the A-row next to my pinky so KUL is winner there.

hehe, I've got the same ducky set coming in on Monday from mechanicalkeyboards. Heard nothing but good things but will be getting Dolch soon.

Nice keyboard. Price is more than ok :) Any one has this keyboard so he can tell me from first hand?

Good keyboard. But i dont like design :/

Kul ES-87 is cool. Like the way it looks. What are quality of stock keys?
What about ping when you typing?
I have found this. Is this common or is it just 1 in 1000 keyboards?

On the other side Lepold fc750r comes with pbt. I like side printing on the keys and you can order one that way. Also i like more the way it looks comparing to Kul.
Did any one got both keyboards at the same time and can say more?

2 bad Leo and Kul don't have costar stabilizers  :(

I don't change much on my keyboard so i dont need that option.
I was looking also on Ducky shine 3 tkl but but out of stock....

So there is no one here that have replaced Filco majestouch 2 tkl for some other keyboard?

Actually the Kul ($109) with new keycaps ($59) cost less to me than the Leopold would have at $175.  Stock keys on the Kul are known to be cheap abs that starts to shine and show character dullness within a couple days.  Haven't had any ping issues (heard that was only with the heavier tactile switches) and don't give much merit to what a sound a keyboard makes when you flip its feet out (lol).  Keycap profile is really the only difference that stands out between these two boards.  The Kul uses OEM profile where as the Leopold uses its own profile (similar to cherry).  If you do get the Kul with new keys I have read it was important to get them in OEM profile (as I did) and not cherry or leopold to escape creating a bottoming out noise of the caps on the Kul plate.  There are a couple of manufacturing and coloring options (even side printing) which actually will give your keyboard a more customized look than the stock Leopold.  The Kul also has the dip switches to switch the keyboard layout and the ability to get an optional colored case (red, blue, or white) rather inexpensively.  These are all the reasons why I went with the Kul over the Leopold.

Not to take away from the guy who loves his Leopold board though.  Maybe hes tried the Kul but on paper at least "by far" seems to a bit silly.  Maybe he can come in here and give some factual information about the board instead of emotional hype.

Here is a link that is pretty helpful comparing all three.   https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=70856.0
