Litho.cap learning artisan sculpting thread
« on: Sun, 21 February 2016, 14:28:06 »
I'm new to this, so bear with me

So I figured it'd be about time to start making my own caps. I started with something near and dear to me, Star Wars.

I finished this one earlier in the week. It's the first cap that I actually have ready to mold. (waiting on moldstar order to come in)

From here I think I'm going to do some work on some of the "traditional" keycap archetypes and working on a skull cap.

It's still got a bit of cleanup that needs to be done.  I'm trying to keep it largely like my Stormtrooper key and confined to the front surface of the key instead of the sides.

Really liking that stormtrooper.  Love seeing all these Star Wars caps coming out.  Looks great.

That does look cool, what material are you using? I've been thinking of getting started on making my own too, but I haven't really done any sculpting before so...

That skull looks super dope. If it was a little less angry that'd be top. :))

To whichever mod moved my thread, Thanks. I really wasn't sure where to put it.

Currently I'm using GMK thick doubleshot esc keys as a base, and sculpting on top of them with an epoxy putty called  "ProCreate".

Skull's all finished. I took some of the meanness out of him by request. I'll prep him for molding and get a vinyl logo on his back when the moldstar comes in. No clue what to sculpt next... been thinking maybe a monkey king or something. If anyone else has any ideas, I'd be more than glad to hear about them.

I actually graduated from Savanah College of Art and Design with a major in sculpture. Haven't really been able to do much with it other than  work as a welder for a while and occasionally sculpt miniatures on the side. Currently I work 9-5 as a graphic designer here in New Orleans, but have always been a PC enthusiast.  I've cut up numerous PC cases I'm the past, but caps seems to be a better union of sculpture and PC. So yeah..
