Does the V60 support the HHKB layout?
« on: Thu, 25 February 2016, 00:09:35 »
Judging by the PCB, it looks like it does, but can someone who knows more than me possibly confirm or correct me if I'm wrong?

Cheers!

The pcb might but the firmware won't

Sharp Keys or AHK would fix that though, yeah?

Not for the split shift and split backspace

Great news! KBParadise confirmed they are working on an update that will make the board fully programmable via TMK. My dreams might actually come true!

oh wow! Can you post a link to the source?? This would be awesome, especially for the Matias variants!

I have also heard from KBP that they intend to introduce a fully programmable V60. I am not sure if this applies to both the Cherry and Matias versions. I hope so, because I prefer Matias switches.

In the meantime, I use ATNsoft Key Manager to remap my V60 Matias to something close to the HHKB layout. I use the key in the far-right of the bottom row as my Fn key.

BTW, KBP also says that they have already made the V60 Matias more compatible with standard aluminum cases. I think that there are 3 and perhaps 4 holes that line up with the mounting posts, but I have not tried this myself (I still have the older version that has only one hole that lines up).

Would they be releasing an update, or would it be a completely redesigned board?

I don't know, but I would suppose that the completely programmable version would be a new release rather than an update.

TMK is not very user friendly. KBP might even fork TMK and add their own GUI of sorts to it.

I guess we'll have to wait and see, huh? Here's to hoping for the best.

So KBP just got back to me. It looks like they are releasing a new board with programmability. Here's what they said:

TMK :need to buy a new board. We call it V60TMK. New Chip and ne design PCB. It is open source. We will provide a web for end-user to remap it. Schedule  not confirm yet. Engineer is working for the we.

Looks like it'll be a great option for a POK3R or KC60 alternative.

It is great news that KBP will be producing a completely programmable 60% keyboard. However, I am not interested in another 60% board with Cherry mx (or Cherry mx clone) switches. I would like to see a fully programmable V60 with Matias switches.

Yeah I'm really hoping they release a Matias variant of the TMK. I would definitely be all over that.

I have just now written to KBP asking them to consider making not only a fully programmable Matias-switch V60, but also to consider releasing a DIY kit for a fully programmable V60 configured for Alps switches. This would make it much easier to build a 60% keyboard with Alps switches. Desoldering Matias switches from a V60MTS can be somewhat difficult and it is possible to damage the PCB in the process.

That would be excellent! I ruined a few switches and lifted a pad on my = + key when I desoldered the Matias switches and put in SKCM Orange Alps in.

If they released something like that, I'd for sure pick one up. I'm sure a lot of people would.

To help these ideas (fully programmable V60MTS and a DIY V60MTS kit) transition to reality, it might help if everyone who is interested would do two things:

1. Post the request(s) on the KBP Facebook page.

https://www.facebook.com/KBParadise/

2. Email KBP to make the request(s).

kbp@kbp.com.tw

Thanks.

Wow this is awesome! It's great to see a company embraces open source fully programmable firmware.
TMK Alps64 w/ Matias Quiet Switches in KBP V60 case.
Infinity60 with SKCM Orange Switches w/ TMK.
CM Storm QRF w/ Frosty Flake controller, Cherry MX Blue Switches and TMK firmware.

Coming:
Ellipse Model F F62.

Just heard that the fully programmable V60 might be available by mid to late August in the US. It will at least have Cherry mx switches and possibly Gateron. No word yet on whether or not they will have programmable Matias models, but I hope so.
