GIFs as avatars?

How come the GIF in my avatar isn't working? I see others with GIFs as their avatars. I want to be included.

For the sake of everyone, pls, no. GIF avatars are so annoying.

but, they have to be a very specific size. I can't remember what. Smallish tho.

How do I resize GIFs without fancy schmancy software? The poor needs GIFs too!

You can turn avatars off in your profile settings if they distract you.  I have them on (but signatures off).  It distracts and confuses me when more than one person has the same avatar, or when someone new uses an avatar that was used by an older member.
