BlueSky-Dolch - possible GMK set?
« on: Sun, 27 March 2016, 22:25:05 »
I was messing around in Photoshop with the Sky Dolch colorway render. I was wondering if this could ever be turned into a full set. Sky Dolch colors kind of clashed a bit to me with the cyan and lighter greyish keys.

This one might be closer to the correct cyan color:

Would it be better to have the modifier base colour for the alpha legends?
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I think white looked better. Maybe try the purple?

One issue I can see with white though is that, with it combined with cyan, it might be fatiguing to the eyes after awhile. The dark grey on cyan seems a bit more balanced and soothing.

That's probably all I'll do with it. I just thought that Sky Dolch had some more potential to evolve into something a bit more balanced and unique of a design relative to the original Dolch.

I. Can't. Stop.

This teal color may be a bit more "Dolchy"

I'm kind of tired so it's a bit sloppy, but I hope that get's the point across that I was making. Just a more evolved design than putting Cyan into the existing Dolch.

Thanks!

I might play with it some more, but I would need some Pantone colors or true RGB values for GMK's colors before I could do anything more detailed.

But, regarding Dolch, it's such a classic design, there's really not much one can do to change it without messing it up!

Wait so coming to originative confirmed? xD

Im really liking both the more vibrant  as well as the less flashy and more 'Dolchy' teal version of the latest mockup.

Any chance of including a dark gray \| for 60% symmetry? Pwetty pls...  ;)

Thanks! Glad to hear some colors like this are coming!

I've been doing advertising graphic design for years so I like colors and fonts. I'm curious about the plastic colors and how you determine the exact specs for that. Like, I know a lot about CMYK inks but I've just now started looking at plastic so I don't know how to specify its color properly. It's so different seeing it in person versus a computer.

For instance, the Dolch Teal-green color would be nice for modifiers. I've not seen this color modifier, but it is one the Dolch logo. This color also happens to look like a Gillette shaving foam container plastic color. But I can not seem to replicate it properly on my limited 8-bit color range.

Here's the idea. It's just a quick mock-up, not really complete design, but mainly to show the modifier and escape key color in Dolch teal-green. It's more deep and vivid in person than what I can do in the photo:

Cool, thanks.

So there really is no teal-green color GMK keys? If not, I would imagine a modifier + arrow & escape key set would sell very well, especially considering it's the official Dolch teal-green.

I had second thoughts about the Sky-Dolch. I think it may pop better in person. After trying to duplicate the color from the Dolch logo and Gillette bottle, I realized there is possibly a lot of vividness lost in the Cyan when just viewing on the screen.

Here's a VERY rough & dirty layout I played with, using Teal-green:

The Gillette teal looks uber sexy on both of those mockups.  It's like the second coming of Chri..... Triumph Adler.

Most of what I see of Triumph Adler is teal, but not teal-green. Some pics look teal-green but I think they have the wrong color. I guess I thought since Dolch was so popular that there was teal-green already available, but I never have seen it. Just cyan or blue or green.

All I really want is a teal-green set of arrow keys and escape key for myself. Just subtle:

If I could afford to, I would put together some sets. I just want some basic, universal stuff that could appeal to many, including myself.

For instance, I like how Dolch can have so many different ways to mix colors with it. I think if you have some more standard, neutral, and less saturated sets like Dolch, and then some brighter colored auxiliary sets, then you'd have more ability to make a wider variety of custom sets more efficiently, instead of each style needing a full custom keyset.

Maybe I'm being idealistic though. I have a lot of ideas, but no way to execute them. I'm trying to work within my limits. I thought teal-green modifiers might be achievable since it directly ties in with Dolch.

Most of what I see of Triumph Adler is teal, but not teal-green.

Yeah, I knew what you were talking about.  In the Triumph Adler thread intelli78 has pics of his original caps that were closer to green than blue, which was different than the pics he was originally sent by the seller. (see https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=70278.msg1830891#msg1830891) People were expecting the color to be closer to blue, so they took the GB in that direction.  I always liked the green shade more than the blue one, so I love your idea.

Maybe you or someone else could get a group buy together for Esc, arrow keys, mods in Gillette teal.
