Just got a HHP2 delivered to Sydney Australia (don't ask howmuch it cost).

Still getting used to the Key feel (coming from a Deck 82 with black cherry switches).

A question: the keys dont seem to have a completely even layer of colour (I got black on charcoal). On the top they are fine but the sides of the keys look a little washed out in some areas and have very faint spots in others. Is this normal? I wouldn't like to send it back.

Also is it worth getting the roof. I made one out of Xray film today (worked out quite well) but I wondered whether the roof gives it a proper seal or if it is open at the sides.

Oh....first post ever, so be kind

My roof is open at the sides, except for two tabs which ensure it goes on straight and can't slide sideways. It also has a strange opening front right, which may be for the HHKB Lite 2 which this roof is also designed to fit.

Is it worth getting? I'm not sure I would have bothered if hadn't come as part of a package. Even for travel use you'd have to rig a way to keep it in place to provide protection. I'd just wrap it in a towel or something.

I noticed the uneven finishing and the molding marks as well, but I quite like the charcoal finish and the feel of the keys.

I must say, just by the youtube videos, the Topre switch reallly does have a very unique sound. Hard to describe, but it's a very snappy, rubbery "thock", like you could hear the cup snapping back, or something.

Well I have been using it all week and I keep miss hitting the delete key (backspace on my settings). Actually just writing this post I hit the \ key instead of the BS key (on the Deck 82 I have) so it looks like the HHP2 is winning. It does feel awesome to type on. I try to *find* work to do so that I can actually use the Keyboard!

The Keys are really different feeling. I can't describe how different, just crisper I guess.
I switched out the Esc for the Red one and then the WSAD for the Blue ones and promptly switched em back to charcoal. It just looks good with charcoal and one red key. I had a Radioghrapher comment on how 'tiny and cool' my keyboard looked, which is a first because I have never had someone compliment me on my keyboard. I have had exclamations of 'Gee your Keyboard is weird' or 'why do you use that crappy looking keyboard, it looks cheap' (when using my Deck which I quite like). But never a compliment. So thats a first!

now you know what you have and how unknowing lot of people are. In a keyboard does matter:

1. the design (lot people look only this) ---visible---
2. the material make of  (better plastik, wood, metal) ---visible---
3. the ergonomy ---visible---
4. the keystroke, and keystroke feeling (here suppose to be technical/mechanical Superiority) ---invisible but fillable---
5. the keystroke sound (metalplatte or not) ---audible---

topre (hhkb) IS with his fillable keystroke, audible "thok, thok, thok" and his amazing farting not detectable for the most people. But if someone use it then he has reach the point of no return. He would not been able to use a cheap keyboard again.

Just a quick question:

But for the life of me I can't figure out how to get Tab to become Caps lock.

I hit Fn + Tab = No Caps, just Tab.

Yes, Greece.

Here there is no such a thing known as a keyboard maniac. So, you can draw your conclusions.

eBay= no sign
elitekeyboards.com = do not provide warranty outside US
keyboardco.com = have not seen any, maybe after request?

When I will have the money, I will try pursue a Happy-K.

Do you have it in plain HHKB mode?
It may not have the caps lock function.

I suggest using Mac mode, it has the most functionality, and there seems to be no downside.

I have it so that Delete = BackSpace

Perhaps Mac Mode may do the Trick

Yes, but this year I experienced some bad luck with keyboards. I returned 2 times some keyboard to the same distributor. Two misses in a row! Statistically impossible. Can't reveal names. If I didn't have warranty I would loose money equivalent to 1 HHKB2 Pro.

well I'm just saying in general. The keyboards that I run into that's got shiny keys normally has a lot of play in each key and it's almost twice as loud. I see those normal Dell rubber dome keyboards at school that's shiny and they seem to be easier to type on... or maybe it's just me lol

So does Elitekeyboards. Problem here is the shipping and warranty. I'm not sure whether Geekstuff4u offers a proper warranty. Certainly wouldn't want to foot the bill for shipping it back to Japan if **** hit the fan.

Times like this, I really wonder what happened that made us Europeans so boring, and thus left out of the market for cool technological items...

Hi About your slash keys, until you find them you can always copy mine, here: \ and / :D

i got my blank hhkb pro2 yesterday, for some reason took me 30 minutes just finding a website with the layout, usualy that's something i've been finding in 2 minutes lol, even if i never usualy have to look at the keyboard, with some keys and layout being in new places, id say getting used to it is quite a 'reset' of habbits

Here's where are my slashes:
I use 1-3-5 dipswitches on, i think this corresponds to hhkb lite mode or something like that, from the default settings, this gives me the following results, the default delete key replaced by backspace, and the alt keys close to the space bar, and the Fn key at default location, with windows set on english settings for my keyboard, my / key is the first key to the left of the right shift key, and my \ key is, starting from top right corner, the second to the left, none of those 2 slashes require me to press Fn or Shift.

All this is on windows, i don't have a Mac right now, but if you have to test or compare some settings, just send me a PM, i'll be back as soon as i'm done this last minute shopping

It works for me. I have the version 1 HHKB Pro, and my DIPs are 2,3,4,6 on, but that should make no difference.

Haha, now you mention it, having a blank HHKB is much more hardcore than having a blank, standard layout keyboard.
