I'm looking to get a decent quality bluetooth keyboard for my PS3. Preferably tenkeyless. Any suggestions welcome. Looking to spend 50 USD or less.

Doesn't the console require a proprietary keyboard, even though it uses a USB interface?

I don't think so. I was able to get one of those garbage Apple bluetooth boards to work with it. I just hated typing on it lol.

They would like you to think that it only works with sony licensed stuff I'm sure.

The DiNovo mini works but I rarely use it for the PS3 and use it for the HTPC.  I'm too lazy to flip the switch and get the whole Bluetooth recognition routine started every time I go from one to the other.  Spendy little sucker too.

Looks like a pretty niffty little board but that's a bit out of my price range for something I'll use occasionally. I spent that much on my Filco lol!

I'm surprised it's survived frequent falls.  Have to admit, perfect size for home theater stuff and since it's Bluetooth I have no problem accessing my HTPC in the wiring closet downstairs.

Come to think of it, Bluetooth is kinda overkill for a PS3.  Why not just get some cheapo USB dongle wireless keyboard?

I wasn't sure that would work. Wouldn't I need some sort of driver for the wireless receiver to function properly?

Even if it's QWERTY.  :)

I'm using a USB board now and it's a bit annoying to sort out the cord. Worse yet, Sony decided to make my PS3 with a measly two USB ports which is a right pain. Tried a USB hub but that wasn't very successful. So yeah, I'd rather have something compact that uses BlueTooth.

the MGS4 package was/is great

but only REALLY great if you combined it with the $100 walmart coupon (or price matched it at best buy)

EDIT by the way
cherry blues i think are everything they are hyped up to be
never thought i would like clickiness but wow
though i think the idea of using them to play games is bad because of the way they have to be lifted all the way up
other than that a BLAST to type on

i pricematched it at best buy
but the sony card is equally awesome, ive heard about that technique

EDIT not to say i dont shop at walmart.  best buy actually had the PS3s in stock, and offered a warranty.  walmart is only best for a big shop for general items.

I own a PS3, and the documentation with it noted that one could use a standard USB keyboard with it, and didn't even mention if SONY made one. I don't know about Bluetooth, though.

Have you played "mystery shopper" at one of your grocery stores lately?

All the time.  It's the only place I buy groceries.  I don't shop where I have worked, though, if I can help it (I don't really feel like "catching up" with people).  We have the best prices with the best selection in this area of the country.  When I go to Chicago, though, I stock up (as best I can) on stuff I can't get here in TX.

I've got a Logitech diNovo Edge hooked up to my PS3 which is Bluetooth and it works fine. Even the little round trackpad on the keyboard works as a mouse when using the web browser.

PS3,  ....one could use a standard USB keyboard with it, [documentation] didn't even mention if SONY made one.

Logitech does, the NetPlay Keyboard, Model Y-UC29, a Playstation-specific USB keyboard with integrated Playstation controller. Or is that a game controller with integrated USB keyboard? Whatever.

The keyboard and game controller slide apart for use separately. Keyboard is narrow. Backspace is teh suxor.

I don'thave a playstation, but I have a Playstation-USB adapter for use on my PC. The dang $20 adapter cost me 20 times the controller/keyboard price.

EDIT: oops, this isn't Bluetooth. My bad.

i dont think that counts as the existence of a nonexistant PS3 keyboard.

definitely crazy though.  usually there are just tiny thumb-keyboards.  and were there really that many PS2 (PS1?) games to use a keyboard in?  considering the keyboard is USB anyway, i think a normal controller and a USB keyboard would be a better option (surprise)

Bwuh? How is a keyboard made explicitly with a Playstation controller add-on somehow NOT counting as a Playstation keyboard? Do you mean nonexistent SONY Playstation keyboard?

The mini is quite nice, just too expensive and not as well built as the price would indicate, kind of wish I'd got an Edge instead. I'm planning to pick up a PS3 slim after my finals tomorrow, that offical keypad addon looks cute if slightly useless even with Asian hands.

If I lived in / visited Japan, it would a Bluetooth Filco without much hesitation.

PS3

this is interesting, but about as relevant as a sony-made keyboard for use with a sony computer.

Color me dense. I fail to see your logic about irrelevancy. PS3 means PlayStation 3, right? What part of a PlayStation keyboard is irrelevant to a PlayStation?

AZ is not a writer or he would be a little clearer.  I think he means that the OP is looking for a Bluetooth keyboard.  Or maybe not.

Ricercar, I'm still cracking up about your other post where the pic caption was..... "I just ran out of words."   It's pretty easy to tell the programmers from the writers around here.

It doesn't necessarily have to be bluetooth but I do want it to be wireless. I just wish I had a RF or IR keyboard to test with  to make sure they work with the PS3 first. That's why my initial idea was to get a BT board, cause I'm farly certain any will work.

EDIT: Plus with BT you don't have to worry about obstructions.

Have you guys seen this thing right here:
http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/07/japan-scores-official-bluetooth-ps3-keyboard-for-5-000/

I saw it yesterday at a local shop, and I must say that Sony really impressed me with this product. The problem with me is always the stupid layouts we Europeans get ... does anyone know how to get this keyboard with US layout in Europe?

Well I'm really pointing out the obvious ... but there is a trackpoint on that Sony PS3 keyboard. I do not really expect it to be comparable to a modern Ultranav device, but interesting nonetheless.
