I have been reading these forums for awhile and finally became a member.

I like to build my own keyboards and prefer clicky switches in a 60% profile. I have a full 110 for my home office but usually work from bed or the couch with a laptop and a usb 60%. I travel a lot for work so lugging around a 110 is not very practical.

Currently typing on a GH60 rev.C (from techkeys) with gatereon green switches (from a Massdrop) and Signature Plastics Eve keycaps love DSA profile keycaps.

So hello I am currently in the Chicago area but I am usually on the road.

Welcome :) Have you compared those gateron greens with cherry mx green? I'm weighting all options before taking the ergodox plunge :eek:

You know what I like the extra force necessary for actuation because I have fat fingers and I was always hitting keys next to or close to the ones I was intending so it helps in that regard. I have two keyboards with Cherry Blues are they are still nice but I am liking the better precision of the greens.

I've used various Model M 104 key keyboards, and one Model F 122 key. I can safely say that a 122 key keyboard is not the right size to use with a laptop :))

Or even a Kishsaver ;)

Do you find that you bottom out on the greens much?  I bottom out all the time :p

I do bottom out I just bought a bunch of springs from https://www.massdrop.com/buy/custom-cherry-mx-springs so I will be trying a bunch of different possibilities.

Nothing wrong with bottoming out ;)

That's a lot of springs.  You'll need a switch opening tool to make swapping them around easier.

We have a lot of members in your area.  Keycon is also planned to take place in Chicago again this year.  You should check it out, and meet some of the members if you are able to.  Lots of great people here on GH.

It has been three years since I finished my school in UoI. Really miss The Bean, Navy Pier, and all of its museum

Probably not much changed but I have only been here for 4 years...so it seems the same to me. I have been to the Bean a couple times and the museums are always fun. Navy Pier is undergoing some new face lifts like new Ferris Wheel and they are adding some apartments to it.
