Alps SKCL green to Alps SKCM green???
« on: Sun, 01 May 2016, 21:00:56 »
Hey geeks, Just a quick question about green alps. I am getting my hands on a skcl green equipped zenith z150 keyboard, and I am wondering if it is possible to install the click leaves from skcm white alps into the green alps to achieve a pseudo skcm green switch.

Not 100% sure on the leaf swap. I think you could. But I don't think it would yield a tactile switch. You might be interested in Click modding though

Why would you want to do that to SKCL Greens anyway? If you want sudo SKCM Blue like switches just click mod SKCM Orange's.

yeah, plus White ALPS or tactile Black ALPS are already pretty common.

However, modding black or linear ALPS will actually give you a nearly equally smooth switch too.

It's possible to tactile mod linear greens, but they'll be quite different from SKCM green / lime as that uses different parts.

I wonder why ALPS didn't just use the same switch for all of their switches and then just replace the tactile leaf with a click leaf or remove it entirely for a linear switch or vice versa (and then the slider to differentiated them)

In a nutshell that's exactly what they did :P .

then why do green alps feel different than modified tactile alps?

Well they kinda did. Over time they changed materials for cost (like SKCM Blue to White) and that's why they didn't just use the same basic parts +/- leaf's for forever if that what you mean. Plastic materials changed in the sliders, the shape of leaf's changed as well, they never used the same 'click' leaf for forever.

You also have to take into account switch wear and grit etc.
