Hallo from the Netherlands
« on: Wed, 04 May 2016, 03:43:26 »
Hallo,

I'm Tom from the Netherlands. And I'm a webdeveloper by trade.

After lurking on the forum for a couple of weeks I decided to register and introduce myself.

After a colleague of mine bought a mechanical keyboard, my interest was sparked. I didn't want a big keyboard myself, so now I'm waiting on the arrival of my first mechanical keyboard: a Filco Minila with Cherry MX Blue switches.

I really like the projects you guys (and gals?) have made here on the forum. Hats off to all the creative people here. Maybe in the future there will be a project of my own here.

Welcome to Geekhack!

Minila - interesting keyboard to start with :)  I wonder how long it will be before you are tempted to get an HHKB ...
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Maybe not the HHKB, leaning towards an ortholinear design. A Planck or home-brew.

Ah.  I've often wondered, those that use an unconventional layout like something ortholinear, are there many difficulties switching between a conventional board and the ortholinear one.

I guess you'll find out ;)

I always thought the blues were kind of standard...

I've worked in Belgium for a couple of years (AZERTY), so switching keyboards is second nature to me... ;)
