New to Mechs, already broke... from GA
« on: Fri, 20 May 2016, 00:58:36 »
Hi everyone,

I just purchased my first mech KB last week and already I'm spending long hours browsing GH in search of ideas/keycaps/where to go next.
Might have a slight spending problem...

I love watching (occasionally playing) football/soccer (no league is off-limits), driving/riding cars & motorcycles and playing most video games.

Anyhow, I'm excited to be learning about KBs and the community. Look forward to interacting with many of you!

I figured you could just use your imagination!
It's a Filco Majestouch Ninja TKL. I've ordered the Vortex RGBY Modifier set (PBT) and will most likely pick up a PBT keyset from Geekkeys (Feng?) or classifieds here.

Once everything is assembled, I'll post a pic or two.

Welcome to Geekhack!

What switches have you got in the Filco?

If you're worried about spending too much, take a few minutes and read this thread.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Browns are a good median switch to start with, but you'll probably find yourself wanting to try some other switches eventually ;)
