JTK Debut (PoW) - some are very squeaky and gritty feeling
« on: Fri, 20 May 2016, 17:36:56 »
Got these keycaps delivered today from Keypop and many of them are really squeaky and gritty...typing feel isn't quite right either - feels like they don't have as much travel as I'm used to for some reason? This is on a VA87MR with Gateron Blacks. The left bracket cap is stock Varmilo.

On mobile rn and not going to bother with loading video but the inside of the caps are rough so if that keyboard is backlit then the caps are rubbing on the leds.

Does that board have in switch LEDs? I had some clearance issues with that set and 3mm and even 2x3x4mm LEDs, but no problems with 1.8mm LEDs. The caps press against the LEDs causing that weird feeling and sound.

Yeah it does have in switch LEDs - that must be it. Damn, was really wanting this combo to work out!

The way I got around it was just putting the LEDs inside of the switches. Probably not something easy to do for you if the plate doesn't have switch opening cutouts or if the gaterons don't have the clear tops on them.

I once dremel'd the LEDs to an angled top to fix this type of thing. There's a lot of resin that can be removed if you are careful. It was a lot of work though!

Yeah, but it is super annoying to do, so much dust! haha
