Recently addicted to mech keyboards and can already see what a money pit this is going to be but loving it all the same. Total newbie. Completely clueless. All advice welcomed. Cheers from Glasgow, Scotland.

So far; couple of nice Noppoo's by accident (Choc Mini and a Blue backlit TKL 87 which arrived with 2 sets of caps), a black Vortex Pok3er, Filco Maj-2 TKL, A DAS Keyboard S which i already regret but it'll do for work and a couple of PCBs and cases including most of a Planck (due in June) which i'll start building as soon as it arrives. Add to that multiple keycap sets and that's in less than a month so if i keep this up i will be thoroughly skint by then end of August. I love everything about this and most importantly the community appear to be keen on sharing their expertise and passion without being too competitive (i'm sure there's plenty of that going on) or overtly condescending. Also there appears to be a wide age range which is good as i'm well past my sell by date. How about you; how far into this mayhem have you gone?

Temperature test? I believe my feet are currently burning. As for my wallet; it spontaneously combusted a week ago.

Welcome to Geekhack!

Highly recommended reading.

Then there's the actual recommended reading thread - there's lots of information in that one to help you get started.

Other than that, just start reading keyboards and keycaps are good places to start, and feel free to chip in when you have an opinion about something, or can answer a question.

Also glance through the media section, but read that post about the wallet I linked first ;)
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
