Eating my words, Inverted spacebar
« on: Tue, 31 May 2016, 16:59:26 »
Wow. Just had a pretty humbling experience. Ive always talked **** about inverted spacebar users, saying they have deformed thumbs. I though it was wierd, doing that, but I tried it today and it feels AmAzInG. WOW! what else have I been missing?

Split keyboards. They're the best, even better than the inverted spacebar.

I'm one of those people that shrugs at spacebar flipping; but I know I'll try it one day. Who knows, I might like it.

How does that thing not flip out and smack the person in the face?

The system uses a strap and some hooks to secure the laptop in place. You just can't see them at that weird angle. I probably wouldn't use something like that on a spring mattress; especially with two people on the bed. :blank:

After having a flipped spacebar for a little while, putting it back the right around felt like the prodigal son returning home.

I think it depends on how your hands are positioned when you type. I tried it just a few days ago and it works great for me.

Forehead spacebar. You're all stuck in the past with your traditional thumb method.

Foot pedals are awesome as a spacebar replacements. You feel like a drummer, somewhat, and you get some much needed legwork!

As far as flipping goes it feels better if you rest your wrist on your desk (which I do) because it's angled appropriately. But I agree that I need to fix my typing style to be more ergonomic, which also means I don't have to flip it. But for now, it's staying flipped  :p

Also to whoever think people do it because they have delicate hands can go eat their spacebar.

Honestly I type with my wrists elevated, so there is a straight line from my arm across the top of my hands. I still prefer it flipped.

That's interesting. But I guess if you use your thumb it's still lower? so the angle is better?

I type without a wrist wrest and the board I have a flipped spacebar on has no case on it, so its just a pcb and plate sitting on my desk with a wooden block propping up the back. Ghetto, I know. The front of the board is lower than normal so maybe thats why flipped spacebar feels so good.

Do whatever you want to do, but if you want to post pictures of your board, flip the damn thing back. Save the rest of us the horror.
