[HELP] Noisy spacebar+backspace && o-ring suggestion?
« on: Thu, 09 June 2016, 08:30:55 »
Hello

I currently own a Varmilo VA87MN which has Cherry MX Brown switches. I bought this keyboard off Taobao and in all honesty I never expected the browns to be this light haha. My main problem with this keyboard is that the spacebar is rather noisy and clunky and the same goes for the backspace. I believe it's the metal bar which is in place which causes it to have a major discrepancy in the noise it makes when pressed. It would be greatly appreciated if anyone could advise on a fix. I've posted photo's of how it can move really easily.

Another issue I have is that I have read O-rings can help reduce some noise since I'm easily bottoming out this keyboard. I was wondering where I could purchase these for cheap off Ebay etc. I reside in Australia and it'll be greatly appreciated if fellow aussies could help recc where they made their purchases :)

Thanks, Leigh

Thick lube on Cherry stabs is the best way to quiet them down. I'd suggest getting a small tube of Krytox GPL 205 and apply some of that to the contact points of the stabs.

I got my varmilo VB87M last week and I absolutely love it foremost. However I have a Ducky Shine with Cherry MX browns and the lightness of the Varmilo also surprised me. Last couple of days I have been constantly comparing the two. When I read your comment I just had to reply. What is up what this? Why are those switches that light?

There's lots of cheap o-rings on e-bay.  Here's one option.  But the cheap ebay ones tend to be a little harder and only seem to come in the 1.5mm variety.  If you want something a little thicker and/or a little softer, you'll need to look elsewhere.

Massdrop has some 50A ones on at the moment, but I've heard horror stories regarding their shipping prices to Australia.

Also, try hitting up Lpwl in the vendor area and see what he can do for you.

Yeah definitely shocked at how light these ones were. IDK what is is buy I know when typing on my friends Poker 2 with browns they seem to require a lot more force to actuate. TBH I felt a bit skeptical about the switches. I have no idea why they're so light but I've had urges to pick up another keyboard myself to compare however in reality I'd go for something like Cherry MX Clears!

Thanks for the link, I think $1.35 for cheap O-Rings shouldn't hurt as long as they kinda get the job done.
