I agree, saw that earlier while browsing reddit & it is a jaw dropper for sure. I bet he could make a killing if he were to make some more & sell them. Although I can see the novelty of having a one of a kind KB like that also.

It reminds me of those keyboards you'd use at ATMs or kiosks.  :p

It sure is an interesting juxtaposition of function and aesthetics, a chiclet mechanical keyboard.  :))

they're not that bad. As a long time mbp user they are pretty easy to click. Your finger doesn't have to lift back up as much

Keys being "island" keys is no big deal. The keys being flat and the profile not contoured is detrimental to accuracy and ergonomics though IMHO.
I would also not have chosen Cherry MX Black... but each his own.

With all the planning involved, I want to say that he went with chiclet keys so that the custom keyboard would blend better in a casual environment. Maybe the decision was based on using the least about of aluminum as possible (he did give himself a lot of room for error)? Who knows

Very nicely done!

To make his own keycaps too shows real dedication.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I wonder if the keys go all the way flush with the case.
