So, since said Filco seems to be a thing of the past, all that's left is custom hack jobs like martinmeijerink's tenkeyless WYSE-based board. Sort of a pity really. I don't see why one shouldn't be able to make one, after all a mechanical board won't be any more power hungry than a plain ol' rubber dome.

You can build one easy enough. Look at my mini wireless hack. martinmeijerink's was a lot more complex imo.

These wireless minis are cheap, and easy to make one with with some modest soldering skills.

See the problem? Furthermore you need room in the keyboard case for the additional PCB, wires and whatnot. Definitely NOT easy for some of us. I would love to see a M mini or Filco tenkeyless with Bluetooth.

That Mini might still be too heavy for my tastes though - a fullsized M definitely is for keeping it on the lap. (That was precisely the reason why I abandoned them for my tertiary computer, in favor of a G80-3000.) A "featherweight" like a G80 would work better.

As long as it's the desk that has to carry it, yes of course.

Try to work with a Model M on your lap though, and move it around for a bit. Then you might agree that heavy doesn't work out too well in that sort of application - airplane construction (lightweight but stable) would be more like it.

I have one of the 10' ones on my M5-2. Sometimes I use the computer from across the room.

I may have found something regarding this..but I'm waiting for the manufacturer to tell me exactly what kind of switch it has before I let the cat out of the bag so to speak, and decide if I want one or not.
