Filco Majestouch Replacement Keys
« on: Wed, 30 December 2009, 05:34:34 »
I'm a keyboard-geek virgin, I need help :(.

I'm looking to get a Filco Majestouch 87 key but I absolutely hate the windows key. I don't want the smooth, circle windows key that it has. In my opinion, it ruins the whole aesthetics of the keyboard. I still want the board, but I want to replace the windows key with a blank key that doesn't have that hideous circle on it. I've looked around but I don't know where to buy the Filco keys and it seems like the process is prone to damaging the switches, so obviously I want to follow careful instructions.

If you guys can point me in the right direction to buying the keys and how to replace them (without damaging the switches) I would be most appreciative.

Or maybe there's a keyboard that is like the one linked above that doesn't already have the atrocious circle thingy? Or maybe there's a better site to buy from? I'm a programmer (C + VIM + Linux = all I need in life :) ) so the keyboard is pretty important and I'm tired of these cheap-ass boards that I use. Any advice that can be given will be well received.

THANKS!!

AH! Look at that! That's a sexy board right there!

I'm a little embarrassed. Everything I needed was right on the website the whole time, lol.

Kinda sucks that I have to spend an extra 35 bones just for two keys, but it's worth it. If I'm not entirely satisfied with the keyboard then it's worth nothing to me.

Thank you very much, webwit.

Yeah I was pretty disappointed when I found that I had blank Windows keys. I was actually going to ask about this too. Right now I have both Windows keys on the right.

Only thing I can think of is removing the lettering on the marked keys to match the rest of my blank keys. I know I can sand blast them, but that's too much effort considering I don't have a sand blaster.

Why does everyone likes using red escape keys? Do people think that looks good, or is there a specific reason to it? I'm asking because personally I don't understand the attraction.

Purely aesthetics. That, and there is a little symbolism and, perhaps, irony involved in having a "red button" for Escape.

Much like the way a pinstripe on a car can change it's look entirely, a single key change can make some keyboards look HAWT.

I switch, depending on my mood, the project, and the color of the stone in my ring. Some days I just want to reset.

I trolled Geekhack and all I got was an eponymous SPOS.

Thanks for the link. I think I might get some clear key caps If I go through with my plans of adding extra keys to a standard 101-key Model M.

I'm not up-to-date on my celebrities. All I know is that Michael Jackson died, Britney Spears went through another emotional breakdown, and Tiger Woods went out with more than 10 women at the same time.

My workbench. They fit nothing when I bought them off eBay.

Yeah, that's a pretty common complaint about them. Thing is that the letters are probably printed on as part of the colouring of the case, so it's probably more effort than it is worth to the manufacturer to make a completely blank one.
