Industrial M with Unicomp APL Caps
« on: Mon, 27 June 2016, 19:01:57 »
Pretty sure these are Unicomp APL Caps which you can still get from their website for $35.  Don't think they made industrials with APL caps originally.  All of the real APL boards I've seen have "APL" on the side front face of the Backspace key, so just keep that in mind.  Still will probably go for a lot, but to say the caps are "rare" is kind of misleading.

I thought they looked like Unicomp APL caps as well. I saw another seller doing that, and I have mixed feelings. They are decent caps, but not up to the original IBM print quality. I feel like sellers should identify aftermarket modifications like this, when they are aware of it. Replacing a single missing cap is one thing, but implying that these APL caps are OEM seems borderline dishonest to me.

They're definitely Unicomp caps.  There's some minor differences immediately noticeable from real IBM caps.

I wonder how high this one will go. That Industrial on Goodwill sold for quite a chunk of change several months ago, after all.

Nice, clean keyboard though :)
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

LOL—why would an Industrial have APL caps? Maybe there was a mechanic in some garage who was studying programming between car repairs?
