New Varmilo
« on: Wed, 29 June 2016, 18:32:37 »
Sorry for the potato phone pics.  Just arrived and haven't even fired it up yet.  VB87ML bluetooth only model.  Gateron blacks, PBT dyesub caps, red LEDs.  and I think COMIC SANS lives!!

Kudos to the vendor rep Miya!  She helped me walk through the board options w/ several changes on color scheme.

My only comment is the red color is OK, but kinda orange/neon type red.  Wishing it was bright RED red.

looks great!

I didn't know you could customize keycaps sets. would have just bought them that way, and not have so many spare keycaps lying around.

Yes, I just found a picture of one from and old massdrop and told Miya to match the pattern with my colors.  There is a line item on her pricing list for multi colors.  She even threw the WASD set in as spares.  Board came with black ones installed.

Honestly I don't much like my Varmilo. The Bluetooth is too finicky to be useful and not being able to plug it in and use it is also annoying. Been trying to sell mine but no takers as of yet.

I'm glad I got one without bluetooth. A nice 7' Pexon braided USB cable with it is great for the occasions that I move the board around my desk. I like a variety of boards and The Varmilo is my default gaming board. I like it because it's a very compact TKL without being flimsy and I like the standard layout. I think lightweight switches go really well with how I use it. It's definitely my favorite MX Browns board I have had. I think switches and boards can have a synergy, and I feel it here. I always have a heavier TKL (Kul ES-87 with MX Clears) when I am in the mood, or some buckling springs when I want to get clicky.

That all being said, I think I want more Varmilo keycaps like pictured here! I don't normally care about funky keycaps, but the Varmilo is my "fun-board" so I'd like to add a little more flair to it.

Looks great, but you're right the red is kinda washed out.
I love my varmilo's and Miya is a doll! :D

Maybe due more to your BT dongle? Is it 4.0?

Yes, I wish you could use it via USB as well.  Wonder what the issue is with making it dual?

I didn't have a dongle, I direct connected it to my phone, iPad, and laptop. Which makes it even more finicky because it will always select the first device it finds even if I don't want it connected to that device and when trying to connect it to my laptop I would always have to turn the Bluetooth off and on again in order for the Varmilo to find it.

Awesome dude! Yeah, I just received mine a few weeks ago and I'm loving it. Miya was super helpful and definitely does her job well. I was glad that custom ordering it was so easy! And it shipped all the way from China to NC in just 5 days, lol. These aren't the best pics, so sorry if they hurt your eyes, but here's a link of what mine looks like!

Very nice! I wasn't nearly as creative with my custom board. I'm still insanely happy with it though, considering I mostly got it to match a key cap I won(also wanted to try a different switch which I love so it wasn't a total impulse buy).  :))

Yeah these are the last two boards I got. Blue with Gateron Blues and Green with Gateron Greens. (Am I not the most original fella ever?)

Edit: And just the green.

Yeah, I got mine with gateron blues. I really love it. How're you liking the greens compared to the blues? I've never tried green before. Not gateron greens at all, and I've only ever tried cherry green on a switch tester before. It seems like it'd get fatiguing rather quickly though.

I'm the type of person who tortures their keyboard a bit so the stiffer the better for me. I was hoping for more tactility with the greens, but overall I'm extremely satisfied with them.
I'm still torn between blues and greens though. Will need to try them both out some more.

They've had Varmilo written in comic sans for a long time and it's been one of the biggest complaints that I've seen both here and on Massdrop.
It's finally being phased out though - my newest board has nothing written on the sides, only the bottom.

The KB comes totally ninja with no markings except for the normal label on the bottom.  The logo on mine came as a separate piece.  It's metal with a sticky backing.  I actually like the logo so I stuck it on!

Since I swapped the case for aluminum on mine there is no logo at all.  ^-^

It's KeyForge's Saber artisan. You might be lucky to trade someone for one. Although I don't know if anyone wants to part to with theirs yet. I certainly don't. :D

I certainly would love that, but I found out the casing is almost if not more expensive then the kb itself, so I gave up the idea of getting one...

I bought mine secondhand. Still expensive but not nearly as bad as otherwise.

I would've never heard of Varmilo had I not purchased my first off of Massdrop, so I'm happy I did. Although the custom ones I've ordered from Miya I'm much more fond of now. :D

Hi everyone - I recently purchased a lovely VA88MC Varmilo keyboard and have just made the switch over to Manjaro Linux.

Problem is the Win keys aren't working! Any ideas which keyboard model I should select and if there is a dedicated Varmilo driver available. There's nothing showing on their website for linux and I can't see any generic 88 key options within linux.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks
