Are 96 Key Keyboards really that unpopular?
« on: Sun, 31 July 2016, 11:54:38 »
Having a horrendous time trying to locate any vendor or GB that sells a 96 Key such as Lightsavers, RSIII, ZZ96's... and I seemed to have missed out on the only 96 key GB in this forum...  So is there something inherently detestable about the layout or is there very little interest in them in general?

All the boards you've mentioned are customs, which tend to be run in small production batches.

Plum makes a 96-key, though I'm not sure where it's available internationally besides Aliexpress.

Not sure about the legitimacy of the seller at all, so buy at your own risk.

It's maybe the other way around? I think compacts with the num pad are the hotness right now. People, including me, know that it's our preferred layout and I wouldn't part with my RSIII, b.mini EX, or TX1800. The duck blackbird doubled its original limit in about 36hrs.

Now, if you're looking for something in particular, then it can seem really tough because there are many different compromises that can be made in the layout, making each particular layout a little more rare. This is maybe why they don't get stocked--inevitably you'll have someone who wants something a little different, maybe for keycap compatibility, maybe for ergonomics. It's not like a 60% or a TKL where generally one popular layout is established.

If you don't mind (or would like) an extra column of keys between the numpad, then the winkeyless b.mini EX is available from his store. If you don't mind a little separation between the numpad, then the tx-CP is still open for buys. Follow all links and threads though because while the GB runner has been very reliable here, he is acting as something of an agent for someone who did not handle things correctly.

Lightsavers: They are limited production custom boards from Duck, I doubt there is a vendor that has any type of Duck kits in stock, there might be another GB of this one in the future though.

RS3: The creator is on a break from keyboard stuff since he is otherwise occupied (Just became father), so there won't be any new kits produced for a while, old stock should be pretty much used up by now.

ZZ96: Well, just as you said you just missed the GB

AMJ96: GB was unsuccessful since it was almost parallel to the ZZ96 buy. There might be a future run of this, maybe by the same person that tried to run it previously, maybe by someone else.

I've also found a "GSX96" on TaoBao, the pricing looks a bit sketchy though, unless you are good with the Chinese language or know someone how is I'd not try it.

also interested for a replacement for my ducky shine 2 full layout which is a bit bulky for me after being exposed to 60% and 80%

im really interested with keyboards without gaps recently 65% 75% and that 90%? not sure about 96key being 90% hehe

i hope i could join future GB, i wish i could understand chinese (taobao) since i live in asia(PH) which is relatively closer, so i could get them shipped directly to me.  :thumb:
