Issues with my Varmilo VA87M
« on: Tue, 09 August 2016, 16:31:29 »
Hey guys. Hope y'all are doing good. I just had a question about my keyboard. I got a Varmilo VA87M w/ gateron blues from the varmilo vendor forum here on geekhack. I loved the board for the several months and I still do, but there's on thing that's become an issue in the past month or so. The clicks on my switches feel different. Now, I'm not sure how one could objectively test this, but I swear that they don't feel as good as when I first got the board. I'm also having issues with the clicks sounding different as well. This is especially apparent on the WASD cluster and a few other keys on the left side of the keyboard. The arrow keys, for instance, still sound and feel great, but the letter A especially sounds entirely different than when I first got it, a kind of shrill ping instead of the click it was when I first got it. I'm not entirely sure what to do here. I suppose I could contact Miya here on geekhack and try to RMA it, but I'm not sure what the warranty is for Varmilo boards is. I guess the real question I'm trying to ask is this, is there any concrete way of testing if my switch is acting weird, or if something is maybe loose causing it to sound/feel different than it did before? And if so, how hard would it be to open up and replace the switch myself? Or would that void the warranty and I should just suck it up and go through the RMA process? Any help would greatly be appreciated. Gateron blues are my favorite switch, but I find myself using my Novatouch almost exclusively now, and while there's nothing wrong of that in of itself, I'm missing my clicks!  :p

I heard they used cheaper materials and less quality control than Cherry. I also heard they lube them to make them seem inherently smoother than Cherry.

They might just be wearing out within the actual spec of their design. They are clones, after all.

How old is that keyboard/switch?

I swear blues are the most inconsistent ever and i guess its true to Cherry and clones. I have my own share of experience with cherry mx blues loosing their clacks and feeling mushy after some time but i never would have thought it could also happen to gateron's version. Aside from the louder sound of gateron blues i really thought it felt better/crisper.

I also have the varmilo VA87 with gateron browns and they havent shown any issues so far (crossing my fingers), its been with me since march this year :)

I really prefer Gateron switches over cherry because they are cheaper and perform as good as them with the added smoothness but this is a real bummer. please do notify varmilo regarding this matter.  :thumb:

Oh no guys. I think I may be out of luck here. It appears as though Miya is leaving from Varmilo and since it's her I ordered through I have no idea how I would go about even getting a RMA. I mean, I can't find a Varmilo webpage or anything anywhere....
