Leopold Cherry Stabilisers - Attempt at first mod
« on: Wed, 10 August 2016, 00:40:25 »
Guys,

Need your help. So I am going balls deep on my first proper mod on my Leopold FC750R in MX Red.
Picked up a soldering iron kit that includes all the extras plus de-soldering pump. I have only soldered once but I think I can do this.

I want to do a switch lube and try clipping the stabilisers to alleviate the mushy feels and hopefully make those red switches silky smooth.

I also picked up INOX lube, I think this is good?

Anyway, how the frick do you get those stabilisers out? I think its plate mounted because the metal bars are hiding under the plate. Do I have to desolder all switches? I guess I wanted to try this stabiliser clip thing first before I attempt anything else first.

You only need to desolder the switch at the stabilizer you want to remove, after that you should be able to press the retaining tabs and pull out the stabilizers.

Thanks for your reply.

When you say press on the tabs, do you mean press down on the plate?
I can see the metal bar but it's sandwiched between the pcb and plate and looks difficult to take out.

On the stabilizer plastic there is a retaining tab, similar to the one on your switches. It is on the opposite side of the wire, so you can press that tab and pull the plastic upwards to loosen it. Loosen both sides and you can pull it out by aligning the wire with the cutout. Remember you have to desolder the switch at that place first.

If you still need help I'll do a quick video for you.

i'm fairly sure that leopold uses pcb-mounted stabilizers; if so, you should be able to flip over the whole keyboard (when out of the case) and see where the stabilizers clip into the pcb. one side is a hinge, and the other side is a retention tab that you can squeeze together to push out the stabilizer.
Let's get this straight. There is nothing cool about keyboards we're all lame as fk.
