Hello, new member from NoVA

Hello,

New member here, I'm a big fan of the IBM buckle-spring keyboards, but a little RSI has forced me to look for other options. I am currently using a Logitech G710+ at home for gaming, etc., but I am seriouly interested in the Topre keyboards and am hoping to find a local member(s) w/some of the Topre variations to possibly arrange a test drive.  I did use a Kinesis Advantage at my old job, but working in a shared environment currently precludes me from using one--I really miss the footpedal for shift key use.

I think my current dream keybd would be a RF or similar, silenced / backlit (white only) w/45 or 55g uniformly weighted Topre switches for general use/gaming.

I would also like to try a variable weight model for use at work.

Hey there, welcome to geekhack.

I'm in Nova, you can possibly try my hhkb if you promise not to murder me.

MG,

thanks for the reply. Are there a group of members in the area that ever meet up to share and compare info on different models or their custom builds?  Also, do you know of any members that are into the custom mods or do the spacer/oring replacements? I was looking at getting a Leopold FC660C Mechanical and doing a hypersphere ring upgrade to it, but would love to know if there are peeps in the area that have done the mod that I could contact for further assistance.

thanks.

There hasnt been a DMV meet up since i've been around.

I think there is interest in attendance, but IDK if anyone is willing to actually organize it.

Basically every board I own is custom, and i've lubed and hypersphere'd my HHKB

Welcome to Geekhack!

There's not many backlit Topre keyboards.  RealForce keyboards are not backlit.  Is backlighting important?  If not, the RealForce is a fantastic keyboard!

You can create a meetup thread in off topic and see how many people are interested in going.  Then all you need is a venue - indoors if the weather is unpleasant, or outside.  Bring a few drinks, bring a few keyboards, and enjoy :)
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
