Soon-to-be Ergodox owner. Hello!
« on: Thu, 25 August 2016, 10:54:41 »
Just getting into mechanical keyboards and GH! Have an Ergodox on order (frosted acrylic plate and Gateron brown switches) but no key caps! Looking here and on /r/MechMarket on reddit for some possibilities but it seems my options for a full Ergodox set are limited (could only find one online retailer with a full set). I'd like to not have a mashup of multiple sets to fill out the board.

Happy to be here and looking forward to some tips regarding my key cap dilemma!

Welcome to Geekhack!

Ergo Dox keycaps, depends if you want printed or not.

Massdrop has a blank set, but that drop has ended.  You could join the 770+ people voting to make it happen again: https://www.massdrop.com/buy/ergodox-keycap?mode=guest_open

THis thread has some information about Ergo Dox keycap requirements.

This thread also has some info.

And someone posted the following picture recently (sorry, can't remember where):

Hopefully that helps a bit.

Due to the profile of most keycaps, a lots of people end up using a uniform profile set, like DSA.  Pimp My Keyboard sell various DSA sets, and also DSA individual keycaps.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
