Where can I buy Novatouch sliders?
« on: Tue, 30 August 2016, 20:32:22 »
I'm interested in swapping in Novatouch sliders on a FC660C but I'm not sure where to buy them. I've found them on the CoolerMaster UK store as a refurb package but I'm in Canada so I'm wondering what other options I have for buying them. Buying a Novatouch for this seems very excessive if I can just buy the sliders.

Also a newb here, looking to buy a white hhkb pro2, and mod it with hypersphere rings;

Are novatouch sliders the purple sliders, that would increase the slide distance/height?

I know Flehrad on Reddit was selling some translucent artisan MX sliders a little while ago.

No. These sliders are from a CoolerMaster Novatouch keyboard which has Topre switches but the sliders accept MX keycaps, so people can use their MX keycap collection on a keyboard with Topre switches.

The purple sliders you are referring to are a different beast, longer than stock sliders to compensate for the thickness of the silencing rings, and only accept Topre keycaps.

Oh, wow! That's awesome.

Is there any downside to having the novatouch sliders? Would it change the feel of the HHKB at all?

Could you use these sliders on a Type S?

This makes me curious.. has anyone ever attempted to create their own MX sliders for Topre boards?

Matt3o did just that!  He put the design up on Shapeways and you can order 3d prints.  Might be a good option if you only want a couple but would be pricey to fill a board that way.

He was looking at options to mass produce them, and I think there was a group buy at some point.  But I don't know if they're for sale anymore.

Long, old thread link below, but I don't know what became of this.  I just happened to be looking into this today and saw your post.

Sadly harvested hybrid sliders are TKL and I am using a full layout.
Woe to me.
Well at least the RealForce RGB has cherry mx compatibility, hope someone harvests their sliders then

These aren't from a Novatouch but they should be compatible just the same:

I know Flehrad on Reddit was selling some translucent artisan MX sliders a little while ago.

When he sold his last four sets, he said hid 2u mold was done and that it would be awhile before he made more. He may be able to make you some 1u sliders still, you'd have to get with him, you just wouldn't be able to use the stabilized keys.

If you're interested, I'll let you know what I think when mine get here.

When you mean by done, does that mean he just finished it or it is no longer functional? A good amount of people doing MX slider mods are HHKB users so that shouldn't be too much of an issue.

One of his replies from the thread where I purchased my set:

I certainly can do full sets once I can develop a better 2u casting method. Just don't know how long that will be.

So his previous 2u mold is no longer functional, but it seems to be a temporary set back.
