Endgame worthy chiclet keyboards?
« on: Fri, 09 September 2016, 10:48:03 »
I don't have much experience with chiclets, which is why I probably hate them.

What are the best chiclet keyboards? Which switches are the topre quality equivalent in the chiclet world?

Would prefer something with very low actuation force (<30g).

My wife likes whatever is the newest product sold by Apple.
From the US Constitution, Article 1, Section 8 :

The   Congress   shall have Power
To declare War,  grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal, and make Rules concerning Captures on Land and Water;
To provide for calling forth the Militia  to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions;

I love my MBP keyboard. I heard Windows makes some good ones lately, too.
Chiclets are scissor-switches, right? If so, I've heard great things about the TypeMatrix.

I'd never seen a TypeMatrix until now. My head hurts.

I suppose that what you are looking for is "low-profile".
"Chiclet" is a keycap style where there are borders between all keys. They are also called "island keys".
For instance, the Rapoo KX has chiclet keys but is not low profile.

My favourite low-profile keyboards have Logitech "PerfectStroke" switches. They are scissor switches that are quite hard but snappy and with comparatively high key travel.

Metal scissor switches. Whatever has metal scissor switches and domes made of silicone that can be reconstituted would be my product of choice. Might need little cone springs to help strengthen the domes, though. Probably far fetched and very expensive. Might be cheaper to buy one of those MSI behemoths /shrug

G20 flat keycaps + cherry mx speed switches, if I recall they bottom out in 3.2mm vs 4mm of the normal ones.

Pok3r will soon be available with cherry speed switches

More deets please. I was being completely ridiculous but if you say razor has a keyboard with metal scissor switches I'd love to know what it is called. Topre short throw is a no brainer--it would be nice to have a Thinkpad with those :cool:

I'll just throw in this here I was told it is very good for a chiclet (looking at the price probably still far off of endgame though), but never got to test one for obvious reasons.

Huh.. so a generic rubber dome with a metal leaf to imitate a tactile click? That is really bizarre

That crap does not belong in this discussion. It is not low-profile, chiclet or scissor. There is a thread about it already.
