Hey congrats. Enjoy your new keyboard, I think that's a good price too.

It's nearly $300 USD for me here in the US(sadly I have to pay California state tax)

Hmmmm..... the "Maybach of Keyboards"  And another foreigner rubbing in the low value of the dollar.

Congrats.  I'm typing on one right now.  Great keyboard.

How about "the Acura of Keyboards"

I would have suggested the Lexus of keyboards but after that nasty accelerator incident, that might imply that the Return key could stick and cause you to have to power down the PC.

Besides, my wife drives an Acura MDX and Acuras retain more value than any other luxury brand.

And yes, I'm also typing on an 87U right now - it really is an outstanding keyboard.

You know what was funny about all that?  The guy driving was a complete douche.  He had that Lexus floored into a turn.  Think about it.  How the Hell do you get an accellerator stuck under a floormat???  My GF, who owns a 2010 Camry, was affected by the recall.  Looking at her car, there's no way to get the pedal under the floormat unless you jam the pedal almost past the stopping point.

Well, I've done it - Just placed an order for a Realforce 87U at Elite...

Just couldn't hold out any longer. I hope this is my last keyboard purchase. I really have no other serious desires after this. Maybe a Cherry Blue would be nice but that's more of a fleeting interest I think.

It sounds like you are about to move to Stage 2 keyboard addiction.  Stage 1 is collecting 'boards of different switches, layouts, etc. to try them all out.  Stage 2 occurs when one or two favored types are found, and you start collecting multiple keyboards of those one or two switches (rdjack21 is deep into Stage 2 with Topres and webwit with BS).  It doesn't necessarily mean that Stage 1 ever truly passes, but the addiction evolves.

Good analysis. As addictions go, this one isn't too bad. It's got practical values, and in the grand scheme of things, it's not terribly expensive. Although since joining geekhack in Oct 09, my keyboard-related expenses is now up to $730, that's about $182/month for membership in this illustrious club.

That is, until you have about 5 keyboards per PC in your houshold/office.  Now that I am pretty much in Stage 2, there's some 'boards in my collection that need new homes.  I might list them in the marketplace, soon.

Yeah sure, hope is the key word.

Most of us  have said the same thing...again and again

Keyboard addiction is worse than smoking.  We're all good at quitting keyboard purchases...we've quit many times!

My GF's Cherry is nice.  Her's is soft-touch, so I don't need to use a lot of force when inputting.  The action is very smooth.

Those would not be for sale. BUT... you can get a G80-3000 with browns from here: http://www.datacal.com/p-1254-cherry-g80-3000-keyboard-with-brown-switches.aspx

Coincidently, it's the same 'board as my post above.

Sly, I'm very sorry to inform you that your GF's Cherry is no longer Cherry - not with that much data being input at such a fast rate.

Whats an Acura?

I bought a mini cooper s in 2003 for 50,000 and its still worth around 30,000 today (in Australia anyway). Hows that for value!

Unless that was intended to be sarcastic, it's Honda's luxury division (like Lexus is for Toyota).  I don't know if they sell them in Australia or not.

More relevant is who would want to be seen behind the wheel of a Mini Cooper?   Maybe Austin Powers, International Man of Mystery   :)

It's fun to drive.

If I want some grunt I borrow my fathers 1964 Shelby Cobra.

Anyway. Got the keyboard yesterday and I am making more typos due to a months worth of use on a happy hacker.

Its nice though, build quality is crazy good.
