HTPC Keyboard Options
« on: Wed, 21 September 2016, 11:24:02 »
Hey so I'm getting frustrated with my Logitech K700 HTPC remote/keyboard and would like to change to something else.

Are there any better options on the market than the Logitech K830?
Does a mechanical Bluetooth keyboard with a touch pad exist?
Does it make sense to have the keyboard and the touch pad as separate devices?

The keyboard must have

  • backlighting
  • two finger touchpad
  • wireless capabilities
  • Mechanical(nice to have)

I don't think what you want exists.

I have a k400 which is basically the cheaper non-backlit version of the k830. I use it in my living room when I am hooked up to my TV so I don't have wires going across the floor to my couch.

I always thought it would be cool to build a custom mech board using the controller from one of these. Based on this thread it seems like it is possible to wire up to a logitech controller so it should be doable. https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=58848.0 . I started mapping the k400 rows and columns a while back but never finished and have not had time to pursue this project. I'll let you know if I ever continue the project and get anywhere with it.
